Question Exhaust question? please help

hey i am semi new here.....
i have read alot of useful information that i am very pleased with.

im interested in buying the borla exhaust for my 92 Lexus SC300.
is the exhaust quiet, semi- loud, or loud on a scale of 1-5. i dont want something to quiet but not sumthing to lawnmower sounding.
And also after i turn off my car, my stock exhaust makes a tickering sound for a long time. What can be the problem??

I'm pretty sure the Borla exhaust will be quite quiet, Borla generally adds a slightly deeper and more aggressive tone during acceleration
the ticking sound is just the sound of heated metals cooling down.. its normal... you dont notice it on anyone elses car simply because its not yours

I agree with carnal that the Borlas will be very quiet if you just weld them on without modifying the plumbing under there.

imagine the stock tone a little bit deeper and more aggressive, the exhaust wont drone or be intrusive, nor will it be loud... I'd probably say it'd rate a 2 out of 5

if you want volume... take out your silencers and run custom piping

just changing to a exhaust like Borla wont really make too much of a difference... bit its that difference that the majority of Borla's customers want

Hey, I just installed my borla exhaust yesterday....the sound is deeper, but not loud at all. It's louder than stock, but on that scale, probably around a 2

Carolinaboy, try custom piping, ie: 2.5-inch straight pipes running from the downpipes straight to your Borlas. You'll be quite pleased I think.

What would the 2.5-inch straight pipes running from the downpipes straight to my Borlas do? sounds like a good idea. What would be the cost of the pipes? Thanks

You'll get better exhaust flow with the larger, straighter pipes. The sound will also be louder and deeper (more aggressive). The whole job should cost around $150 (parts and labor).

will it drone with this setup?
will it only really be heard under hard acceleration?

The Magnaflows are quieter than stock. That is why you must remove the resonators and increase pipe size to get any rumble out of them. But they do do one thing postiive; Magnaflows cut down the droning inherant with stock mufflers. The trick with Magnaflows is to get them louder because they very mild, especially on a cold start up. Once you get the motor running hard and hot though, they awaken. Weird phenominon...
