Need help finding SC300 5spd in socal
Hey, one of my close friends has been looking for an SC300 5spd for a while and is starting to give up on the search. I would really like him to roll in a lexus with me, I have an IS300, and be a forum member although im new to this forum. If I can get help looking for one for him anwhere from a little past LA is the northest possible to down south for we are in 858 San Diego area. Close to stock would be best, clean title and not over priced would be great. Thanks

I wish you both luck in your search. You just have to be patient and keep looking.

That's one with a salvage title as well but it looks fairly clean and has all the right basic upgrades. I'd be wary of any salvage title car but it is very easy to "total" these cars with only minor non-frame damage since they're often valued at no more than $3,600 by most insurance companies. A 5-speed in good condition goes for much more than that.
If your friend finds one he likes that has a clean title, tell him to keep receipts for EVERYTHING and get an agreed value policy from his insurance company to prevent this from happening. He should also use the production numbers and recent for sale ad asking prices of 5-speeds to back this up.

It's a bit irksome that it can happen so easily but it's just not the same as owning a Detroit classic where the value continues to appreciate and the cars are looked on differently. I owned a classic pony car years ago and the experience with insurance companies is different.
I just happened to find my SC 5-speed by chance. At the time there was only one other for sale within 500 miles. One of the first things I did was call my insurance company and request an agreed value policy. I showed them production numbers, called Lexus to verify (who don't keep those records in the USA any longer btw), and pulled up every auto trader and craigslist ad I could find on the west coast for original 5-speeds. All this was good enough for them and I got them to insure me for the highest asking price for a non turbo SC 5-speed I had listed. This is full coverage insurance. I've been with them for over fourteen years so that may have helped. I did this in their offices, not over the phone.
If they hadn't been able to insure my relatively rare '93 for what I thought was reasonable replacement value, I'd have turned around and sold it. That's just my personal feeling about it, since I bought it as a unique DD. I'll be paying them a visit soon to register all my receipts for non-wear item upgrades and improvements to back up the insured figure.
Good luck to you and your friend!

Ill have him take a look a your it, and thanks for your post. I think its really the matter of having the right SC pop up, and if he can jump on the deal and take it before someone else does that would be great. Ill also tell him about the insurance, somthings bound to happen as we are both only 17 so that would help him alot. thanks
