Default One-way passage vacuum hose attachment.

In the far left corner of the under hood, just beneath the windshield, a vacuum hose connects to one of two nozzles parallel to each other. The hose connecting to the nozzle closest to the windshield leads to the mini-metal multi-passage vacuum routing assembly (tiny metal tubes welded together, the whole apparatus bolted onto the engine with two screws).

Somewhere on this hose is a break where you're meant to insert a special little black/white plastic piece, the black side allows air to be blown through it, but not sucked. The white side allows air to be sucked through it, but not blown.

Which directions should each color face? Does anyone know what part I'm talking about? How important is this part anyways?

black goes to plunger thingy attached to the heater hoses.
