How to Pick a Turbo:

-Don't buy a Chinese turbo. You can get a good one, but how many times do you have to buy them to get the good one?

-Decide on Horsepower. Find all the turbos that can support that horsepower.

-Look at Compressor map of decided turbo. Find the most efficient boost level.

-Run the most efficient boost level of said turbo. Mod to suit. Enjoy.

Serious, there is no magic in deciding turbos.

Compressor maps show how much airflow the turbo can provide.

Turbine A/R's tailor when the Compressor airflow is reached. Easy Peasy.

Ball-bearings are awesome, but expensive. spool up time is decreased compared to the journal bearing counterpart.

Billet compressor wheels are crazy efficient, and generally awesome. Expensive compared to the steel counterparts.

That's literally, all there is to it.

Have fun Turbo shopping!

Stock twins are garbage.

The ceramic turbine wheels break off. After sitting for so long the seals are already bad.

No one rebuilds them reasonable enough to keep them. Hell, you can have my 1jz twins!

The cheapest way to get a good single turbo is:

-Buy a ebay manifold, downpipe, and intake pipe.

-Buy a used Holset HX35

-Buy a good used Wastegate. (Tial, HKS, no knockoffs this is the most important piece of a turbo kit.)

-Buy an oil line kit, and bolt it all up!

-Enjoy as much horsepower as your injectors can handle!

It's funny how people think there cars can fly because they swapped out their garbage twin for a single. All of the sudden, everyone has to listen to them because they made a few modifications in the past with their cars and now their officially a pro.

It's sad that some people don't appreciate the fact that 1jz-gte twins were ahead of their time. Maybe some day single turbo will be obsolete too, and we all can call it garbage.

I don't disagree, I've had a 1jz S14 and the stock twins were nice, but I won't lie, everytime I went into boost, I was a bit nervous lol.

I sold the car to my uncle (we're relatively close in age), and he's been running stock twins for a few years and haven't had any problems, but on the flip side, boost sits at a nice little 14 psi.

If you are talking about me, I Run the same shops that guys like you pay me to do their work. So maybe a little more then "A few modifications".

On another flip side, these things are nearing 20 years old, so the rubber oil seals are the only thing that is garbage. Other then that they are a very good example of dated turbo technology.

But I already said that, I know I go fast sometimes. Comprehension.

Ceramic wheels were not "Ahead of their time" the were right at the time. Which is two decades ago.

It's not for the horsepower to swap to a single, it's for reliability. Ok, it's a little for horsepower too.

It's funny how people think they are knowledgeable about a topic, because they actually used correct punctuation, so people would "Take them seriously".

Then there the 60-series turbos which are even more dated then the ceramic twins.

60-1, 62-1, T67, etc these wheels were developed in the 70's. Bring it back to the 2000's and get something better.

Like the Borg Warner S300 series, which is what this topic is actually about.

Thanks for playing, goodbye.
