I was told that it was however I am seeing differences between the 2 as far as the shape of the shifter goes.

Depends on which SC300 version it is. I believe there's one with the tri-pod and one without.

Could be wrong though. I haven't looking into it since I put my swap on hold.

If you get the same transmission off the same year as yours.

IIRC

The MKIII and early SC' used the same W58.

95 up used the "tripod" style shifter.

Yea I have the tripod style from a supra mkiv and was wondering if the dimensions were the same or if they are interchangable?

u really sure about that???????

..cause MK3's used a 7M motor, and thus the bellhousing would be different than the 2J

Mk3 W58 are different from the -92-94 SC300 W58 the shifter location are different and couple of other things like the gearing....
Yes the MK3 W58 look the same as the early W58 but when you install it in the SC you will that it's a little shorter the shifter will be in the radio.

92-94 SC300 W58 when you install it in the SC auto you will have to cut the hole for the shifter and close the auto one shut.
When you remove your center console between the auto shifter and the radio there is a little hump that's where the shifter will come thru when you use the SC300 92-94 W58 trans.
The shifter will be 2inches in front of the auto shifter hole.

Even with the 95+ trans You will have to cut you tunnel unless you buy a 5speed tunnel if your car was originally auto.
