Default decision, need some guidance

my 1uz sc400 is leaking from the front main seal, steering rack, upper & lower oil pan

Total is around 3.3k to fix it (including parts and labor)

i was also quoted for a used engine if I didn't want to use this engine a total of 3.6k

both route is similar in cost but I'm not sure if I want to keep the engine that is in there or just put a used one.

the current 1uz only has 50k miles on it (2nd engine), the used engine would be around 25k

which route would be a better route?

thanks and kudos for helping

^agreed. It's way overcharged. You could get a used engine for 400-600 not including labor..

Ummm can you tell me how it is that your current motor only has 50K on it & its leaking from all those places???? Did you inspect this yourself or did someone tell you this. Cause Im calling BS. My motor had 175K & didnt leak a drop, hell even when I spun a rod bearing.

This is why Sc's are for big boys that can do repair work themselves.

Either that, or pay through the nose. These things were 40 grand new so..

Yes I agree with this also, my guess is your used motor with '50k' really had much more then that.

These engines do not act up this way till they get very very high in mileage.

If you want my opinion, find a better price to repair your current motor if it still runs well.

To swap again is another roll of the dice and is never cheap.

My point exactly, been there done that.

I had to hit the *#@% out of the top oil pan with a rubber mallot, just to get it to break loose, from the factory sylicone.

That's way overpriced! It shouldn't cost more than $1,000 at an independent shop. Those prices are higher than most Lexus dealerships.

You can also find used engines on here for around $500 on here as well.
