Default SC400 reliability?

How is the SC400 reliability versus the SC300? Is it easy to work on? How long will each motor go without major issues with VERY regular maintenance and nothing more than boltons? Fell free to share experiences as well with the 400! Appreciate it!

my buddys dad has 380,xxx on his daily driver 95 sc400. 3 timing belts and regular BS, othe rthen that runs great. this being a major factor in me buying a 177k sc400. i have a couple CEL's im taking care of but still runs great. i think my o2's are bad.

Thats hard to say. most people choose in the modding progress on what to get.. I would say the 400.. Its near bulletproof as long as you do the required maintenance. .. Timing belt is the big one.

very true! i was thinking of going the na-t route a while before i got my 400, but with a k&n and straight pipes my sc400 is decent HP for now. i got big plans for a swap later on anyway, so this will do me for now.

i would have to say as long as you keep up with maintenance, either car is going to last a very long time. This was a huge reason that i didn't hesitate to buy my sc400 at 183k!!! usually i wouldn't even buy a used car over 60k miles, but these engines have a reputation for being reliable. thats saying you keep them stock...haha...no matter what car you get, when you start modding it heavily, you will eventually run into problems... that being said, i am piecing together my own T88 kit for my 1uz oh what a beauty this single v8 will be !!

My 98 SC3 had 221k before getting totaled out by a hail storm. I'd had driven it anywhere in the USA still. No issues. I was hoping to get 300k out of it. My buddies SC4 has almost as many miles. Aside from the transmission slipping when it's real cold outside and a yet to be determined from oil leak (minor) I'd drive it just about anywhere. I'd say you're good either way.

I have 250 k on mine and runs like its at 100k. Strong
as can be! I looked at 12 scs before this one all with lower miles but crap for ext and interior. Mine was a 1 owner vehicle that was stock when i bought it. I love my sc, but i really wanna a 99 sc 400, mine is only a 95

The Sc 400 are reliable as large breasts at your Local Hooters.

Haha lately that has been pretty unreliable, but I get what you're saying! I appreciate all the input. Sadly, I found out the GS400 has more power and my budget grew. Haha so I will no longer be an SC owner. Could you say the same about the GS400?

Both engines are solid. The 400 will last longer for many reasons, but mostly because you don't have to keep your foot in it everywhere you go. The low end grunt gets the car moving nicely even though flat out they post similar numbers in the 1/4 mile. Also the 400 can get better mileage if driven humanly. At the end of every SC's life the motor will be running and everything else will have rotted off the car.
