Default 92 sc400

Hi

I haven't been on this site for quite sometime. I had a 01 GS300, 07 IS250, and now my wife has a 04 RX330. I'm looking at a 1992 SC400 for $2500 and want to know if that's a fair price and what to look for when driving and viewing the vehicle since I'm not too familiar with the SC. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks...

It has 150K. I was reading a bit and the average MPG is about 20, is that accurate?

It depends on the condition of the inside/outside appearance of the vehicle.

My son bought a 92 SC400 about 1 1/2 years ago for $2750 & we went through several needed repairs. Turns out these are fairly common problem, with repair info posted within CL site. Here's a list of problems I encounter that you may want to check for. There is also a Top 10 Problems list somewhere on this site, but I just did a quick search & couldn't find it.

- Worn lower control arm bushings. CL discusses repair.
- Bleeding lights on climate control unit. CL discusses repair.
- Bad ECU. Caused intermittent hard starting & loss of power. Usually can find used one on CL classified.
- Broken door handle. CL discusses repair.
- Burnt out instrumentation cluster needles. Can purchase repaired needles.
- Sticky or non-functioning speedometer & tach. Limitations to what you can do to fix this...so I think.
- Bad ignition coil. Easy fix once you know that's the problem.
- Mass Airflow Sensor. Various discussion on CL.
-I haven't had this (knock on wood) but CL discusses instances were PS pump can leak onto alternator & damage alternator.
-Water leak on door panel. In my case this was because prior owner didn't fix it right.
- Heater core leak onto passenger carpet. You can bypass heater & go without heat, like we do in S. Fl. or it's a job to replace. CL discusses repair.
- Idle Air Control Valve sticking. CL discusses repair. Remove & clean or replace.
- Oil leaks from valve covers, oil pan, transmission pan, front & rear seals. CL discusses repair.
- Leaking rear tail lights. CL discusses repair.
-Water leak from cracked drain line coming from sun roof. CL discusses repair.

Hope this gives you a heads up for your purchase. It's better to know what problems you might encounter & it may help your bargaining position if some of these are obvious.
