HELP!! Looking for Candid Feedback on SC400
I’m looking for a NICE “beater” that I can enjoy driving to work during the weekdays and still not fell like it’s a “beater”. I’ll typically be putting on about 250 miles a week and driving another car on the weekends.
I wanted to get experienced feedback from folks with high mileage SC400/300s. I’d look to keep the car as long as possible to get the best utility as possible for the $$ spent.
Your thoughts and advice is much appreciated!!
No way we can comment without that. That being said, for $5300 the car better be in top shape for a 1992.
As far as reliability.....my 92 SC400 still gets 20mpg average and purrs like a kitten at 204,000 miles.

Thanks MKORSU for your quick reply and encouraging response!!
I’m heading over to the dealer today to look at the car and get additional details on the maintenance. I’m hoping that I can negotiate with them a bit. I’m not is huge rush to get a beater either….but I think I’ve settled on Lexus and most likely SC400/300 family as my first pick….second would be the LS series.
Any additional insights on the typical maintenance that I should be looking for with this type of mileage would be helpful!
When you go to the dealer, check to see when the timing belt was changed, oil change details, and check the power steering pump (it can leak onto the alternator).
