Hey there!

My name is Jason. I'm from California. I recently just bought a 92 Lexus SC300 in white orginal color for $500 dollars. Mint conditions. If I wanted to, I can sell the car easily for 3-4k and bank around 3k easily as profit. But I'm going to stick with it. It's a steal for me basically, previous owner threw thousand of dollars into smogging it and it won't smog. I happened to know how to read smog papers, and across from my shop is a good buddy of mines that has a smog shop. Pretest it, found out what was the cause and replaced the problem and happily passed smog with no problem!

It's a keeper now.

I've own the car for about a week now and noticed that driving at night or early mornings when it's dark, the bulbs are really dim.

I've have plans to upgarde the front end of the lightings to HID or as bright as HID.

The past 2 days, I've already purchased 2 Hid Kits already.

One was for the Low beams 9006 at 6,000K Hid
The other one is for the High beams 9005 at 6,000K HId

I would like to rig the cornering lights to HID if possible. I have yet to find out what the Bulb size is.

I gathered the parts already to have it turn on with my city light.

I got my T-taps, 12 gauge wires, 30 Amp Relay, 30 Amp fuse holder, 30 Amp Fuse, Electrical tape and everything necessarly to do the rigging.

I have a slight question since I haven't gotten to rigging it up yet.

But, What Bulb size/type does the Cornering Lights uses?

I need to know this so I can look up HID units for it if there is such a HID unit for that Bulb size/type.

Thanks. Looking forward to learn more about the SC300.

I currently have a 91 300ZX Twin Turbo VG30DETT JDM Motor/JDM Tranny, Bought the SC300 to stay away from dumping countless money on the Twin Turbo 300ZX of mines lol.

PS: I've order my Instrument Cluster Gauge High Power LEDs from SuperbrightLeds.com already and they're on their way. Once I get that here, I can customize my Cluster Gauge Colors! Can't wait!

Here is my photo of the HIDs installed. 4 Ballasts.

Congrats on the pickup. I just bought my second SC for $400. Proud owner of two now. Hows the interior on it?
Welcome to the club.

Thanks!

Interior is clean! Mint conditions. No rip no nada. Just has a burnt Speed Odometer Needle, but that's fine. I will fix that when my Wedge High Power LEDs arrives in a few days when I take off the Cluster.

Mmm, welcome

But i think HID's on highbeams aren't such a good idea since HID have to warm up before becoming as bright as they suppose to be

About the cornering light bulbs, being that they are cornering and not actual fogs, they are some really regular bulbs, 3057 or something in that line...single filament bulb...

I believe people splice the wires going to the bulb socket, changing them into something different... ( I could be wrong on this)

I also have a '92 sc300, I'm on the same process, but I switched to '95 front bumper, and have fog assembly that are H7 bulbs, so this way it'll be easier for me to get an HID kit for H7 bulbs...

Hope this helps.

Great information. I will look into it more. I will be rigging the cornering lights to run on my daylight tomorrow when I have time. Already got the parts.

The car was running really high HC(PPM). After I pre-test it at my buddy's smog shop after purchasing it, found out that it was dumping alot of gas. You can literally smell gas on the exterior of the car. The previous owner replaced tons of parts and couldn't get to the culprit of the fail smog. (I read that it's common for the SC300 injectors becomes cloggs thus dumping lots of amount of gas) This is where I used Seafoam.

As far as I know; EGR, Sparks Plugs, Spark Plug Wires, Distributor Cap/Rotor Shalf, 2 O2 sensors, Waterpump, Timing belt, Tranny flush, Oil Change, Air filter, PCV, MAF sensor (3 MAF sensors in the rear trunk??)

I did also use Seafoam before the initial testing once I welded on a new Magnaflow Legal CAT on it. I replaced the Rear CAT, not the Pre-CAT. Took it to a Smog shop, and it passed.

Got my 2012 sticker and now I"m just fixing it up. A little project of mines for the time being.

Still new to the Lexus, but I'm a fast learner. I know alot about the 2JZ, 2JZGTE, 2JZGTTE, 1JZ and so fort years ago. I've been selling those motors along with majority of the JDM motors that comes from Japan. I'm a big fan of the VG30DETT in the Fairlady Z32 though. But I like the SC300 body, shape, style also. Just never had a Lexus before until just recently.

On the lighting, I'll figure it out once I remove the Bulbs. Just wanted to find out ahead of time what Bulbs they are but no big deal. HID are locally for me to purchase so I can just get it during work.

Got too many side jobs at the moment dealing with 5MGE Supra Engine swap into a older style Supra and a 7MGE engine swap onto a 91 Cressida. Just earlier this morning removed a V6 motor on a 96 Dodge Avenger..

The SC300 will be a on going project and daily driver because my 300ZX Twin Turbo burns too much gas when twin turbo spools..

My Tacoma Xtrab Cab Truck isn't so great on gas either so the SC300 will be my daily driver for now.

The HID for me was a must, the lights were reallly dim. Even with the HID, it got just tad better. I read about the DIY Cleaning of the inside of the Headlights... I might give that a try and drive my Tacoma Truck for a few days until I get that cleaning of the Headlights done and see if it really does jack 40% of your lighting outputs. If this doesn't help much, I'll probably fork up the money and get OEM New replacement headlights from the dealership. I'm sure I can get it fairly cheaper than most people get it for.

The SC300 has 114K Miles, but knowing me and every car I purchased it will get a JDM replacement motor soon. I love doing engine/tranny swaps. I get engines super cheap as well. If you're locally and need a engine replacement of any sort, let me know. 2JZ runs for $250 for me. Complete longblock minus tranny. 2JZGTE is roughly $800 out of the door for me. I'm still great friends with my boss of 5 years thus, I get engines/tranny cheap. This goes for most of the cars out there.

Thanks for the welcomings!

what i did with mine when i put HIDs on the cornering light was took the bulb socket out and gutted everything inside so i can use the socket only and stuck a H1 HID bulb through it and mount it down together as one piece. it would be easier if i had pictures but i hope that gives you an idea.

Great. That's all that needed to be said. I get the idea. I'm a DIY'er and understand what you meant. Will have to take it apart and examine the back area and see how large of a opening I have to custom rig a socket to fit in order to use the H1 HID.

Much appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome, man you stole that car! NICE! Enjoy, it's really rare to get a SC in that condition for that price...keep us posted, and use the search column-if you're thinking it, chances are it's already been done. these guys here on CL are some of the most innovative sons of guns-I've learned a lot from CL.
