When I was upgrading my old trashed FMIC I remember searching a bunch of sites wondering if I can just use a cheaper FMIC like an Ebay CX Racing.

People say that IC quality makes a difference and I would tend to agree. But how much of a difference? You'll see a ton of different manufacturers but most don’t post the efficiency (or temp drops under load) or load until heat soaked or BTU's, or whatever the term is. Most of the time they will just tell you the pressure drop if that. I used the largest CX that I could fit. Turns out bigger is not always better. But the CX one worked fine a bit of a pressure drop. But all in all if you get a more inexpensive FMIC you can use the extra money on AEM meth unit as a safety. I have a graph that shows the temp drop by almost 50% when the meth is on. Theres guys on here who claim using no IC but meth only boosten. For what its worth if you live in an area where the OATs are high then you may want to get a budget IC and Meth.
