Sometime they will send you and engine that was damage thru shipping so you can file a claim with the shipping company, sometimes they send you the damage engine and because they can't sell them locally.
i would get my money back, don't keep that smash up engine get your full refund and try to buy something local.
I wouldn't worry about VVTi if you gonna put it in an older SC, You have to convert to DBW but if that's what you want then i say go for it.
Dbw is still ran by a cable correct? i was planning on sending the harness out anyways. what more would i need to do?

the motor was paid for via paypal on my credit card.
That was a very smart move to use a credit card to fund the PayPal payment. (I won't do it any other way) Otherwise PayPal is not always your "pal" is situations like this. I would definitely contact the credit card company, reverse charges, and file a complaint. The credit card company will do battle for you against PayPal and/or the vendors and you'll have MUCH better results than if you dealt with PayPal by yourself.

He already got his money back from the importer he said. But yeah good advice using CC via Paypal. Good luck with whatever set you do end up with.

sometimes ebay is the only option. and nowadays you are pretty well protected if you follow some simple plans if something goes awry.

ive never dealt with e-bay but alof of people do with good results---or at least so they say.

it is wise advice to use caution when dealing with them im sure---look at what happened here.

Do you mind if i ask how much they charged you for the motor?I realize youve been refunded but what was the original charge?

thanks

The motor was 2,400 shipped.

But the motor they shipped was not the one listed in the auction.

I'm seriously thinking about going na-t at this point. I'm so frustrated.

Well I wanted the vvti motor specifically and that swap was complete with all sensors, it was a far price had it been the one pictured in the auction and minus all the damage.

Notice all the rust on the pulleys? The "beautiful low mileage GTE" in your first picture is actually a driven in the snow high mileage GTE.

Also file a claim with paypal. They will yank the money out of the sellers account and credit it back to your card.
