i blew my first NA 2jz with a dual stage 150wet shot of nitrous. One of the fuel solendids wasnt working properly and the engine went lean and I put a hole and cracked my #2 piston.

and thats when i learned how to rebuild an engine... ahhh good times

I spun #6 rod bearing in my 1uz vvt-i. Trust me you will know when it happens. Cause it sounds like a sledge hammer beating the crap out of the inside of your motor. So I swapped the block for a 3uz & now im a 98SC430.

wow i thought i blew my engine the other night i heard a loud noise and it was overheating bad with smoke every where....turns out i was driving to hard and the bottom radiator hose leaked out all the fluid..so basically my car running dry on coolant the engine was so hot it took almost 3 hours for it cool down..after coolant flush and new thermostat i was good to go....when asked someone about it they told me the way Toyota built the engine its almost indestructible...or the engine wont go that easy..you would basically have to be trying to blow it intentionally.......

you rebuilt an engine yourself? What sort of mechanical backround do you have?

How long did your rebuilt engine last?

That was nearly 10 years ago and at the time I had no buisness rebuilding an engine. I know for a fact I didn't torque the main or rod caps correctly, and I had a blown headgasket after the rebuild. BUT I ran that rebuilt 2j for literally 30k miles just adding water as I went. Then I rebuilt it again the right way

My piston rings went on my 1jz. Was running a gt35 on about 18psi on the hwy, pushing it pretty hard (well above 130mph). Was slowing down and saw alot of smoke coming out the exhaust. Pulled over to the shoulder opened the hood, and saw oil in the engine bay coming out of the pcv. Towed it to the shop, peformed leak down test, pulled the heads off and found pieces of the rings. Funny thing the oil pressure didn't drop, no oil light, nothing to warn me about low oil. Everything was stock internally.

So needless to say I have a 2jzgte getting fully built right now to throw in.

Sometimes learning the hard way is the best way though. Right?

What´s the fun of killing an engine on purpose? I don´t get it.

my 1uz blew up!!!!

there was a oil leak that i didnt think was that bad but having not changed my oil for 4,000 miles i guess was enough time for it all to leak out.... i hate that i bought a car that wasnt taken care of before me, so i didnt really care if it blew. needless to say i was on the interstate and it went kaboom. doesnt turn over anymore and i bought a replacement but my exhaust is rusted on REALLY bad and i am unable to pull the motor (my cutting wheels weren't big enough).... so im putting it in storage for when i come back home from basic training and fix it later.

oh yeah it had 206,xxx miles

sorry to hear that iridebmx.

I dont mean to be rude but it seems as though the engine failed because of lack of basic maintenance not because of the engine itself actually giving out.

I saw on e-bay very cheap 1uz's with very low mileage, i hope you were able to source out a good replacement.

Good luck

edit- i think it would be a great thread to show u swapping out the old and putting in the new--we see it all the time with other motors(1j/2j/etc..) but never the 1uz.

^i was planning on doing that but im a bit lazy haha the hardest part is literally the radiator, alternator and a few hoses in the back and bottom of the motor.

well here in georgia theres a guy who parts just lexus cars and i got it from him for $500... 111,000 miles; motors clean but when i get back i will pay to just have all the gaskets done except the HG
