Default Help!!!:How much would you pay for this SC400.

I have a 93 Lexus SC400, with 187K miles, I have been trying to sell it for a couple months now but I keep getting rediculous offers over the phone before they even take a look or test drive the car. The car has no mechanical issues, only minor cometic issues, which are known issues with the sc's

I replaced the cluster bulbs and needles.

Issues are:
1 wheel stud is broken - $ 7
tilt doesnt work ( need to replace the motor)-$49.00
rear top seat is ripped
clear coat could do some touching up

I wanted $3200 for it, KBB says its worth $3800 in average condition.
But ppl keep call offering $1500-2500 without looking on the car. I feel people are trying to get over on me.

Let me know your thoughts

first off kbb is typically used in dealerships, nada will be more accurate. Second sc's and coupes have taken a big hit with the recession.

I would say 2,000 is a fair price if you are looking to sell pretty quick. If you do not need the money put it at 3k and sit on it. It all depends on your situation.

The cars not bad but there are some legitimate issues with it. I don't think I would give more than $2500 for it unless it has super low miles or excellent mechanical paperwork. Are you in a huge pinch to sell the car, if so you might have to settle for about that amount. If you can wait you may find someone who falls in love with it and bites on more, it really just depends on how motivated you are to sell.

Wait until you get an offer closer to $3000 before you let it go.

I paid $4400 for mine last march. '92, 160k, white, everything works, all stock except for cross drilled and slotted brakes. Came with a 3" thick records folder with everything, including original window sticker. 9/10 condition. Was more than I first wanted to pay, but SC's are rare around here, let alone one that nice.

Devil's in the details. Fix the little things and have it perfectly clean when you show it.

Clear coat is a big issue. It makes a "kinda clean" car look like $%^&*.

I say if you get $2700 in hand run like hell. You can get a 2001 Is300 right now for $5500 damn near anywhere. That's ten years newer and a LOT more advanced car. Price your car on the market or the market will sell everything except yours.

I would sell for what you think its worth. Let it go for what makes you feel comfortable. I bought my 92 for 2k and my 95 for $400. Let that be the judge.

This man speaks the truth.... insane how cheap the IS300's are now.

2-3 days of work fixing nagging issues = money in your back pocket. I mean no disrespect but I paid a lot less than you're wanting for a cleaner '95 SC400 from its original owner. He had been trying to sell it for 4 months.

If those are the pictures you're using to sell the car, take new ones immediately. Pictures sell a car, and those didn't sell me. A nice set of pictures always makes me at least want to come over and SEE the car to haggle.

Times are hard, and the people with cash-in-hand are generally not seeking an 18 year old V8 powered luxury coupe. You have to choose your battles.

I fixed most of the stuff, the freaking parts are expensive. I feel like keeping it now. I am still having issues with the steering tilt. It seem like there is no power in the motor, i was told to replace the tilt cpu, which i did and the tilt still does not work. this is the last thing i need fixed before I carry it to the body shop

the mileage is just too high ---we all know these cars/engines last forever but to me thats your only real problem.

Good luck --might be best off to keep it

Do you know that the tilt ecu you installed was good ? There is a strong chance that a used one will also be bad.
