Default Tail Light Issue

Alright, back yet again with another question.

I've searched for tail light issues, but have yet to find a solution for this one. Out of curiosity, I looked behind my car last night with the lights on. With the brakes not applied, I noticed that only the inner light on the left hand tail lights up, and only the outer light on the right hand lights up. So they are opposite.

When I apply the brakes, everything lights up as it should, and there are no issues. So it's only when the headlights are on, and the brakes aren't applied.

Does this mean that one light it stuck on, and one is burnt out? I've never touched the tails myself as I purchased the car two months ago. So I know I haven't mixed up bulbs or wiring.

Here's an example pic during the day, arrows indicate which areas light up at night:

Thanks!

Sounds stupid but I just noticed it last night.
But even if a bulb is bad, why is one lighting up in the area that should only come on when you apply the brakes? It's like it is stuck on, and one bulb is burned out.

Unless the car knows that a bulb is out and it is compensating by using another light as to not let the tail go completely out?

^ no it doesnt compensate like that. Do you have a tail-light indicator on in your dash? If so it means one of your bulbs is out. Try replacing it/them and go from there.

scENFORCER, there is no light on the dash except my TRAC light, which is still not solved, most likely low brake pads. I'll try replacing the bulb. Thanks!

I'm still a tad confused as to why another light is on that shouldn't be, if the car doesn't compensate.
Replacing the bulb will make the other light come on, but the light that isn't supposed to be on will still be there, won't it?

I had this exact same problem. There is a tail light "switch" I believe they call it, and that is the one thing I didn't replace on my car. I replaced the fuse, the harnesses, everything and nothing worked! I did have this exact same problem though.

Do you mean that you never replaced it at all, or it wasn't one of the first things you did? I'm just curious as to if it was ever able to be fixed or not. Expensive? Thanks!
