Default Idle problem

1995 SC400

My son's car has a strange problem, and being a Lexus I don't know where to begin. As my name implies, my automotive experience is in the Chevy world. He advises that his car's idle is so low that the car will die on him at stoplights. When the AC is on, the car will idle fine. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a repair? Been unable to find a book on the car anywhere and as my son no longer lives with me I don't have the car available to tinker with.

Sounds like it may be IACV related. There's quite a bit on threads here discussing it (advanced search is best bet) and there are also free copies of the factory manuals online that you can download (again, use advanced search).

Sounds like idle air control valve. Link to help you diagnose. http://www.planetsoarer.com/IAC/iac.htm

Try unplugging the ERG. I had similar problems, although mine never actually at a stoplight, and unplugging the ERG fixed my situation. Note that the check engine light will come on from doing this. However, it is no need for worries.
If that is not your problem I would check into the IAC or the fuel pump ecu.

I disconnected my EGR and didn't get a check engine light, is that normal?
