Default fuel gauge needle problem

I have a 93 SC300 and i know the fuel needle is suppose to stay where ever the fuel level was last at. My issue is that when i turn my car off or acc the needle will go all the way up as if full... anyone else run into this problem? possible fixes?

thanks

Swap your needles temperature to gas. I had this issue with my temperature needle it would do the same thing as soon as i took the key off the it would jump to the top. I replaced just the needle and it worked.

funny part is i had the cluster apart and took the needles off too... i dont think i swapped them around but i guess i might have... thanks for the tip ill try it out and see if it works

i do wonder however why they would do that... possibly different resistances (Ohms) that make the needles react differently... anyone have any thoughts on that?

what year is your cluster? The 92-94 are everywhere in salvage yards.

I am going to the junk yard tomorrow, and getting a few parts for mine. Its a 1993 SC400. I can ask and see what he will charge and the mileage if you would like. PM me. I will also try and see the gauges light up. If not its a cheap fix. Ususally go for around 50 -100.

excellent yeah let me know... i actually also had an idea to paint the stripes on the needles in a florescent paint (most likely staying with the orange) and tuck some LEDs in the top corner of the cluster to light up the needles... it would be really cheap and fun to do... Ive done car audio, video and lighting professionally so i would have some fun with that... now i just do that on the side and im a full time mechanic now

before i made my previous statement it probably would have helped to know that my speedo and tach needles do not light up... hence my statement about the lighting
