Default In a HUGE pickle

Hey guys,
Today I got an offer for my SC400.
A guy wants to trade me for a manual sc300 2jz motor.
180k on it, completely stock, obviousley a little beatin up.

MY sc400 is a little beatin up to, but runs strong, he claims
his runs strong to, which I believe, should I be worried about
180k on a 2jz? I know nothing about them, but I hear
they will last forever.

my sc is my baby, but I want a manual so I dont have
to do the 1uz manual swap because I dont have loads
of cash.

Is it worth it guys?

I have 120k on my car completely stock

thanks
-tj

I would say test drive the 300 first and make sure its mechanically sound, do a compression test too just to be sure. Then make your decision.

I'd keep the SC400. Since the SC300 has around 180,000 miles, it should be time to replace the timing belt and all of other the maintenance stuff that you do at the usual 90k miles(or 180k in your case). Check out the SC and see how it compares to your car and go from there. If it doesn't need any work and runs really good, go for it. If not, keep your SC400.

^^ I think I'm leaning that way too.
60K miles is easily another 2 or 3 years worth of driving; maybe more. Plus, with 180k, that sc300's clock is ticking for quite a bit of maintenance; it all depends on how fastidiously the maintenance has been kept up. You could be looking at timing belt, hoses, serp belt, seals, waterpump, AC, PS, alternator, starter, CA bushings, SR bushings, clutch, tranny . . . etc. (and that's not even considering the potential interior/cabin issues)

A manual tranny is definitely nice, but I wouldn't give up a known quantity for an unknown quantity just to get one.

Keep 400 and just save up for swap, 5spd V8 will fun.

You'll prob have to replace that manual trans, then you might as well have kept your V8 and done a manual conversion almost. Is the sc300 a hardtop? I think 180k is too high, if anything just swap a whole 2j 5 spd conversion in your sc400... What are his reasons for wanting to swap with you? There has to be something... eh... Just save money up is my opinion, though it would be nice if it's a hard top, but still prob. not worth it. What are these 2 SC's painted, as well as interior type?

+1 on everything he just said. I would plan and save for maintenance and upgrades to your 400.

yeah, another thing to consider is that you DO swap it with him and you have engine/tranny problems thats gonna set you back say 2k to fix everything. with that 2k you could have a 5spd v8 is great condition
