Default gauge cluster and speedometer help?????

OK so I have a very nice sc300 with a gte/v160 swap. the other knight my speedometer went out. I just died right there while I was driving It then sprang back to life for a second or two but then went down for good. Latter that night the vss CEL 42 came on so I thought cool it's the sensor. Just put the new sensor in tonight and it still doesn't work.

I might mention that when this first happened the first thing I did was put in another cluster and it didn't work ether nor does the odometer.

So I just ran the wires strait from the sensor to all three body plugs. Still had the problem. I was down there messing with it and I accidentally touched the yellow wire to the blue/red or the red one and everything went out on my gauge cluster except the clock. Side not is that the yellow wire also is one of the wires for the reverse switch on the drivers side on the tranny.

I checked all the fuses on the kick panel and under the hood but found no blown fuse (know any other fuses or fusible links around?) When the wires touched I didn't even hear a spark but the lights all went right out. I then put in my other gauge cluster the one that worked just the other day -speed and nothing work there ether.

Please help even wiring diagrams would help I searched and all OTL's diagrams had broken links.

OK I did just blow the fuse (panicked a bit) so I'm back to where everything works except the speedometer/odometer. I think the thing that makes mine different than the other ones that have been having trouble is that I do get the CEL 42 which is the speed sensor and I have a new one.

OK I'm really stumped now. All and all I've totally wasted about 10-15 hours an this stupid thing. I can't stand that my speedometer and cruz control don't work Anyway I'm out of ideas. I have changed my engine in less time.

-Put a brand new VSS on the tranny.

-I have switched out the gauge cluster with two others so I don't think it is that.

-I have run all three wires directly from the speed sensor to the back of the cluster/and I also tried running them to the body plugs by the ECU.

-I have run the middle #14(pink wire)strait to the A2 #1 speed sensor pin out on the ECU. I also checked the voltage at the pink wire and I basically didn't get a signal (.05) but from my reading it should be 4v-6v?

Edit: I just pulled out the sensor because I was just getting a steady 12 volts from the blue/red wire when I would turn the rear tire. I then checked the sensor when I had it in my hand and it would pulse like it should. You can only see a little wear on the plastic gear. How much wear is too much? anyone have any specs. Is it possible that the gear in the tranny is put not adjusted right?

OK for future searches I had changed my vss because I was not getting a pulsing seglal from it (should pulse from 0volts to 12 volts). then when I removed the sensor and checked it it worked so I thought it was the wiring. I wasted many hours on this premise.

Anyway what turned out to be bad was the plastic gear in the tranny. I have never heard of this happening on a v160. The gear didn't look very worn but I verified that it was not turning by installing the sensor but w/out the sensor so I could see the little wheel inside and then with the car in nutreal I turned the wheels. the sensor started to turn but then stopped I guess when It got to the bad stop.

Ok I'm working on my sc with the same problem. What ended up being your issue? Was it the plastic gear on the sensor or some part inside the transmission?

It was the plastic gear.
