New SC400 owner/engine swap
Ok so i recently purchased a 93 sc400 with about 150k on it. i love it. its luxury and speed in one and all my friends are jealous. im not a real hardcore car mechanic but i do know a bit. i was looking through this forum and noticed things like superchargers and such and started talking to a buddy of mine who is into cars. he said if i wanted to really turn this car into a rocket i should swap for a 2JZ-GTE. so i started researching for people who were doing just that and i found a few but i hardly understand half the terms in the articles, because like i said im not a hardcore mechanic. i also found a lot of articles saying you cant do this swap and that if you wanted to you should buy an sc300. can anyone help me out here and keep it the response filled with a majority of 'n00b' terms haha
thanks i appreciate your help!

You can swap it but its more work to swap the 2jz in sc400. I would suggest you have a shop do the swap if your gonna go threw with it. But this has been covered many times already the search function is your best friend.

been covered alot. Im currently doing a swap myself. Have someone do the wiring. If you dont know what your doing though have someone else do it. Its expensive also and not for the feint hearted.
Jeeze, the spelling in this thread..
It can be done on a 400, but you'll need to change a bunch of stuff that you wouldnt need to if it was a 300 (engine mounts, some other stuff, etc etc). So it gets pretty complicated and in the end not as worth it, which is why many people buy 300's and do swaps on those.
The other replies are correct though, get someone else to do it if you want to go that route. Be prepared to spend some money though.
Also, since your new to all this, look into the 1JZ-GTE, the 2J's younger brother. May be a bit more suitable for you.

Might i suggest you keep the v8 and add boost to that, the only reason a gte swap would be faster is because its turbo, but it has the disadvantage of less displacement and heavier. for the price and headache you can make the 1uz toast 2jz swapped cars.
Lol um.... no. Don't recommend a completed custom fabricated turbo setup to a guy with limited mechanical knowledge. That's just not right haha.
First, welcome to the SC world. You will learn a LOT on this car. I learned so much on my supra, and I have never had the car in a shop to be worked on. Here's my recommendation- good friends and beer. Good friends will come over and hang out with you and help you work on your car for a good case of beer. Yes a case. Don't be cheap and get them a 6 pack, a full case, and no natural light!
You will learn a lot this way, and really enjoy your car. As for doing a swap I recommend DDing your SC400 and then getting an sc300 on the side to do a gte swap in and take your time with it. This is a fun hobby but it sucks if you're rushed or don't have good support.

really my point is, its been a common thing to tell people with an sc400 they need to get a 2jz to make power. witch down the line has lead people into the misunderstanding that the 1uz is crappy, slow, underpowered or unmodifiable. witch is very far from true.
although on the plus side this misunderstanding has lead to 1uz's being super duper cheap to get a hold of witch is nice. had people knoticed there potential early on beat condition ones would be $2000.
so with that in mind i take that back 1uz's are junk. sell them to me.
if your goal is 2jz-gte, it would be a lot easier to DIY if you have a 300, if you have a 400 and you want a swap, it's probably wise to get it done at a shop if you're not particularly mechanically inclined.
Don't get me wrong, I love 1uzs... see my sig
. But the fact is that for a NOVICE a 2jz is significantly easier to make power with. Custom metal fabrication (required for a turbo 1uz, not quite as much for a supercharger if you use one of the aussie kits) is a whole other ball game vs what the standard garage monkey is ready for. It's not something you can just push through and figure out, it's an art just like body work. A motor swap is a complex puzzle for sure, but with time and patience you will get it right, get it running, and have it be a well done project. Fabrication though... whole other story
