Question Boggled

Allright, I'm stumped....I missed something...
Im trying to replace the two cone speakers in the back seat of my sc3 with new 6x9s and I can't seem to get my back seats out....I think I missed a screw somewhere? Anybody know how to get them out (like in slight detail)? how to get the carpeted top panel out as well...? Thanks ahead'o'time.
Brain-freezed,
Buck

Is the bottom seat out?

Bottom seat has two latches that just pop straight up. They are located under your legs if you were sitting on it. Pull up and pull it out.

Back of seat are just the bolts you see along the bottom of the cushions. unscrew them and lift up and out.

And if you still have trouble, do a search, you'll find very specific instructions. And exactly what are you undefeated at?

You can bend back the edges to get the shelf out...or you can take off the sides...

You pick....both suck.

It's been awhile since I put my speakers in, but as I recall, you don't need to take the sides off at all. Start bu lifting the center brake light housing and disconnect the wire harness. Then, once the seat back is out, there should be two black plastic "rivets" holding the front of the shelf down. Remove those (pry them out), and remove the screws holding the seat belt fasteners. Then you should be able to lift the front of the shelf cover straight up and pull straight forward. There are only clips holding it at the back (under the window). Installation is the reverse.

Wellllllll, I was planning on cutting...actually had taped the spots out, but the speakers I got from a friend (xplod's <---dont recommend) sounded awful so I gave them back to him and am going tommorrow to pick up a pair of Alpine 6 1/2 Type R Speakers....which sounded good at the shop, Ill do a sound test and keep up the posts....maybe a picture or two? I figured while I was at it I took the subs back as well and am planning on picking up a Alpine Type E or S instead...pics for that too. Allright guys, thanks

All that work and you are just NOT going to be happy with the end result.

I think that for the most part, the rear deck speakers will tend to bottom out from the subwoofer being only inches away. Someone else suggested the XTC baffles from Crutchfield and I would have to agree. Good idea to prevent the problem.

Tomorrow I start on my system. We are going for reference quality with a stock look and no frilly neon, plexi, or overuse of vinyl. Stealth is the key.

in case you are replacing the sub amp as well, the remote cable to the amp is the purple wire. for some reason, mine no longer works, so I'm connecting it to the red (constant) wire. The damn thing POPs everytime I turn the power on. I guess that's the price I paid for being too easy to run the wire directly to the HU.

good luck

Default thanks for the link, mor-power.....

....as I mentioned in the final post of that thread, I couldn't remove that rear deck panel unless I removed one of the side panels first (the one that surrounds the rear windows).

I don't know how those of you that don't remove the side panel manage to do it. I started to bend it so it will clear the side panels, but you'd have to bend it a lot- I felt it might crack if I bent it too much, so I removed one of the side panels.

Maybe those of you with newer SC's have more flexible panels, and mine has stiffened up from being parked in the sun too often.

pcmw, what's wrong with plexi and neon? Undefeated, you do not need to take out those side panels, and you don't need to cut or bend anything, the rear shelf will wiggle out with some patience, just make sure all your clips are out.

"pcmw, what's wrong with plexi and neon" Quote from Lex

Haha... Nothing wrong with it. It just doesn't mesh with the stock look. I haven't found a Lexus with plexi and neon....YET..

I just do not like seeing all that gear. My old Acura that was built for sound-offs looked nice. I won a few competitions but only caught the eye of people trying to find the components. I wanted them all hidden but easy to get to. I used actuators and racks to open them up when needed but hidden normally.

Who knows, maybe I will throw some plexi somewhere....I doubt it thou.
