I don't know of any threads, but you could try taking them to a body shop. My taillights were blacked out by a local body shop. I can post pictures if you want?

if you have 97+ tails you shouldnt black them out that will just ruin them!.... if you really want the blacked out look, sell them buy some cheaper 95-96 and black those out

I tried blacking out 1 97 tail. its not as easy as headlight for sure. Actually got it from king luis that posted up there^^^

If you plan on doing it, be careful not to get water on the chrome parts. They are known to flake off somehow. Also on the passenger side light, becareful with the key hole part when separating. Some people have cracked the lens assembly.

I would want to just red out the amber, but im too scared.

Here are some pics of my tails. These are the stock tails from my 93. I do have a set of 97's on my car now, but I'm not sure how I'll go about modding these new tails.

when i did my tails on my truck. i just grabbed some transparent window tint and clear coat from hobby lobby. taped off and coverd the surrounding areas then went to work with the tint. let them dry for 5mins, then went with another coat. after 3 light coats, i got a deep burgandy color instead of black. more coats woulda got them black though. i hit them with clear coat them drove around for a almost instant dry. idk any other alternative way except for buying the cover. so hope i helped. good luck

buy smoke vinyl, and wrap them. those 97+ tails look pretty nice by themselves, and if you feel like changing it, you can just take the vinyl off.

If you do smoke/paint them, do it very very lightly
I used to have my (92-94) tails done almost as black as my car, looked ok but to much of a hassle to deal with cops so often.
Re did it lighter and much happier.
