Should be a fun car! And to those doubters about 300whp... I have almost your exactly same build in my RX7. Stock LS1 shortblock, 5.3L heads (ported, with OS valves), and a mildish cam. My car made 430whp/410wtq.

It's not about peak horsepower, it's about powere UNDER THE CURVE. 300ft/lbs at 2000rpm makes for a FUN street car.

My RX7 has gone 11.6@122mph on this setup, spinning street tires. With the right tire, it's damn near a 10 second car on pump gas. The SC will be a bit slower, considering it's about 600lbs heavier, but 11's should be NO PROBLEM.

If you're building a track car, then 2JZ is probably smarter/easier. If you want a fun car on the street, the LS1 beats a 2JZ hands down. You can have all the fun in the world under 3500rpm and not be breaking speedlimits by 20mph to do it.

Update.

Motor is coming together slower than I thought but coming. Figures when I take on a project, work picks up. . I also found out a good piece of advice for everyone. Dont leave your camera on top of your car and drive off. The end result isnt nice. So I have to buy another camera now.

Anyway. The motor is coming as follows. LS1 block bored .30 (just wanted to make sure the bores were good) Stock, mild port and polish heads. Stock LS6 intake, custom cam (230/241 @.50 .600 .635 lift 114lsa) I opted for the 114 for a little bit smoother idle. I just need to buy some larger injectors. Headers.... Hooker shorty's for a 98-02 F-body will fit with a little modifaction to the collector. Im doing away with the stock collector flange and welding on a 45' pipe to the end for a slip fit connector to my x-pipe.

I know these cars are long, but damn...

Seriously though, what's the plan with the drive shaft? Do away with the guibo and use a standard universal joint on the front of the shaft? Or can you get a guibo style yoke for the GM trans and adjust drive shaft length as necessary?

45' LOL I meant 45*.

On the drive shaft, im not 100% sure. Im thinking of just having one made from sctrach. Not sure yet. I'll look more into that when I get the motor at lease sitting in the car.

EXACTLY. If you like waiting a few thousand RPM for your power, 2J is fine. If you want a fun street car that has more than enough torque as soon as your foot touches the gas pedal, LS is a great way to go. Although the aluminum block on many of them really doesn't inspire confidence...

LS is definitely on my list of possibilities for in a few years when I'm bored with my 2J-GTE SC300

The motor is almost together... Just missing injectors, and a TB. The plan of using an LS6 intake was pushed to the side when I found an LS1 intake in a far, far dark corner of the garage. So free is always better.

I have although slowed down on the swap for 2 main reasons. 1: I have my second child being born in just less than 2 months, so I need to focus a little more on that. 2: I can still pull off the $2000 limit on this, but it just wouldnt be any fun if I did. So im going to swap to a T56. There is no reason to do a swap unless its really what you want. Also that give me time to look into a single turbo as well. Yes I might spend alot more money but the fact of having a mildly built 5.7L pushing 8lbs of boost through a 6 speed just sounds so much better.

Did any one ever get in contact with DGR about the mounts. My LS motor is about done and am getting ready to throw it in. Some premade mounts would be nice.

I got ahold of person who works closely with DGR. It cost $1200 for the mounts and isolators, plus them modding the subframe.
