Default How much $$$ for torque converter installation?

I've asked around for a quote to have a torque converter installed in my SC4. They say it's going to be around 500-600 Euros, which is pretty much the same amount in USD. Does that sound right or more like a ripoff?

Thanks

If you are talking about replacing the stock OEM torque converter then I don't have any ideas.

However, the upgraded torque converter that most speed shops are selling runs $900-1100 USD

I'm talking about the labour required to install an aftermarket (for example Dragon) TC. Just the LABOUR!

I'm having mine installed for ~420$ ... when I get all the cash together for the unit + install. The dealership told me around 550$, another shop quoted me at around 450$ (US). How many hours are they quoting for the work?

They're not quoting hours ... just the price.

I'm surprised though that this is not SOO much different than what you guys get. I was expecting to pay a lot more here in my area ...

Thanks for all the replies.

$500 ballpark for the install from a Lexus dealer.

Acctis did I talk to you before about how rare these cars are in Switzerland? I have only seen one near the Augusta Raurica since that is a pretty upscale area. Altough it is a Toyota I do not remember seeing to many Toyotas in Switzerland at all either. Must be nice to have an extra rare car there. I am a Swiss citizen and will retire there eventually. Bis spater.

My dealership says that it's 8-9 hours of labor because they have to drop the tranny...

I had my autobox & T/Q changed a little while back, it took one guy about four hours on a ramp, they needed two guys to lift the box in/out as it is a heavy SOB.

Hermosa,

Yeah, the SC is VERY rare here. Don't have any numbers, but I've only seen 2 others so far. Even better, my car is completely debadged, so nobody knows what they're looking at.

Obviously, the bad thing about it is, I can't find any knowledgeable mechanics to work on my car. That's why I'm surprised I got a quote for the TC install which isn't too bad, especially considering the fact that labour is usually a lot more expensive here than anywhere else ...

Oh, and btw ... I'd rather retire in the USA. But unfortunately I don't have that choice
