If its auto, just get a nice gated shifter why try to make it look like manual? lol
Because IMO the gated shifter looks gay and grandma-ish. and since the car is going to be like a sports car i don't want the Lexus old person feel to it.

Because it looks a lot better than a huge ***** sticking up out of the center console... Its not the "I'm posing as a five/six speed" look that I was going for.
Gated shifter does look better than the factory auto, but why install that just to rip it out when I put in a w58?? Now I have a brand new bezel and boot when I go to do my swap.
Do you get it now? lol
Hey matrixgts, I moved the o/d switch into the center console. I also mated the trac and pwr/econ switch together and mounted them under the shift boot. Now I just push down on the boot in the lower left corner if I want to turn off traction control or toggle power/economy. Just a simple solution.

i understand where your coming from, i think it's more for looks then anything, doing a gated shifter on a pre 98 car is a huge pain and not cheap at all. this is just a inexpensive way to make the interior look nicer, the dildomatic stock shifter is just not attractive at all..
I have not done this mod, cause i don't know if i want to spend the cash on a manual bezel on modify my shifter, but i can definetly understand why some people do..
I like the mod... but since I have a R154 swap laying around and sonsidering the cost.. um I guess the 5spd swap will be a better option
Wow reviving and old thread lol....yea I liked it man...but yea I've done two of them..they only cost like 70 bucks total..and you'll need them anyway for the atuo-manual swap..so might as well get rid of the *****-matic. but yea here's the 2nd swap i did in my new SC.
Yeah... I know this was old but kinda worth it if you really want to keep it Auto.. But can it be done with any Mt shifter that is sold at autozone ?
Go with this one..its the one i used..its sooo nice..just better quality than pep boys and if you leave the bottom piece unscrewed the shifter slides perfectly into the hole for the shift boot on the piece you get from drift motion.
