Custom Headlight Project w/ clear lens, new projectors, night shots, even more :P
Hi guys, I was one of the recipients of the clear lens group buy that was started by rideslow and I wanted to show you guys what I've done with them.
I purchased new 98+ headlights and baked them open. I then started out by painting the housings black the right way, keeping the signal lights beneath the plastic visor chrome.
I then cut open brand new headlight housings (yikes) and glued the clear lenses to them. It was a much more difficult task than I had anticipated, but here they are without the weather molding.
I then decided to add a few LEDs to the housing to update the look. Our headlights don't really have DRL's so I wired the LEDs to the city lights. That way I can choose to have them on as I wish. I know this isn't widely accepted here, but I wanted to try something new.
I also installed 6000K hid's to take advantage of the updated projectors and here's how they look.
Well, that's it for now. As I mentioned previously the weather molding is not on yet and I will get pictures up later when I finish that.
Oh, and here's a picture of both.
It's dark out so I took some more pictures. Taking pictures in the dark is a pain with the headlights on, so these pictures hardly do justice.
LED's only
Cutoffs

Can you do a sticky of how you got it to be black housing? I've been looking online like crazy to do it. I've seen the ebay "halo" ones and the regular "how to clean the lense" but haven't found a "make your stock headlights black housing".

Thanks for the kind words
I purchased the smallest length of LED side emitting light strips available from superbrightleds.com and cut them up to the length that fit the inside of the turn signal housing. I had two segments left over.
The led rings are 90mm diameter ones found on ebay.
I actually regret doing this as my right headlight came out a bit warped, but I was getting impatient and didn't feel like removing my old headlights before starting this project
Definitely, the highbeams will be replaced by the ebay ones as soon as I decide on a front bumper. The foglights will be another retrofit project entirely
I can do a DIY for this, but I think the process is very straightforward. If there is enough interest I can make one, otherwise I can answer your specific questions.
