Factory Stereo Dead?
I was using my factory radio (no changer) on my 92 SC400 the other day, and when switching to radio from the cassette (yeah, I was using a cassette adapter to play my mp3 player
), the whole unit turned off during the source transition. No lights. No movement. Nothing.
I checked both fuses (the one in the driver's footwell, and the other in the engine bay), and both looked okay. Does the radio itself have other shutoff mechanisms? Or are there other locations in the car that might typically lose the power signal? The main thing I'm trying to figure out is if this 18 year old radio is truly dead, or if it can still be resurrected, before committing to getting an aftermarket radio.

ive got a factory nak for sale if you want it cheap let me know the tape deck dose not work but if you switch out your eject piece it should work it just thinks there is a tape in it when there isnt
Yeah, checked both in the driver foot well and the engine bay.
Hmm, I'll check that out. Would it short out the same circuit as the radio? Or is the lighter a different circuit? Otherwise, if it's the same are you saying double check the two radio fuses? I'll go do that.

I haven't noticed if the AC has gone out, since I haven't run it during the winter. Did that also knock out your entire climate control system? Or was only the AC affected?
