Default SC400 Audio issues....

Ok, my dad has a 95 SC400 with the Nakakmichi system....the radio works fine & the cd changer (other than skipping bad) works fine as well...the problem is (I think) the amp. When the radio is on you get great sound from the right front speakers & some bass from the woofer in the ctr rear & THAT'S IT. I checked the connector in the rt rear where the phone would have been mounted & found some corrosion & a burn hole thru the plastic housing of the connector, but if I'm not mistaken, that only acts as a jumper when there is no phone installed, so I connected the blue & green wires from that connector only w/no change...in fact it doesn't matter if that connector is connected or not, the sound thru the right front & woofer doesn't change at all....so I guess my question is: Is the amp my next item to check, & is there an easy way to check it?? My dad wants to be sure the amp is crap before chasing one down on ebay & finding out it isn't the problem.....
