Question Drive(D) light does not light up. does it mean anything?

I just noticed on my cluster every other letter lights up except the drive one. Is there something wrong? I feel that the transmission is fine shifts okay, nothing out of whack. Should I check for something, could it be it's going to take a crap on me soon??...help please, i tried searching didn't come across with anyone having same issue.

I guess I just need a bulb, I just wondered if it could of been a serious problem.

depends. If burnt bulbs keep you awake at night, then you might have a serious problem. Otherwise you're fine.

na I meant if Drive light being off meant something like check tranny fluid or a sensor is bad. cuz when drive light flashes sometimes means something can be bad with tranny.

Yeah that happened to my old friend. He had an SC300 , his bulb on (r) reverse went out . The following week when he threw the tranny in reverse , his car blew up . RIP

My light went out a few days ago as well after I pulled my guage cluster to replace the backlighting bulbs. I thought I damaged something when I pulled it. Then I got the dreaded AIRBAG light on. I tried to reset the airbag light to no avail but my D light came back on though not as bright. At first I thought the bulb burned out but I guess not. Now I have to take my car to the dealer to have the airbag light reset.
Still a bit puzzled about the Drive light though. Seem to have something to do with the diagnostics, even though I have no CEL.

yea my 98 5spd auto L & 2nd dont come on, except every once in awhile. i drive it lika a standard. the weird thing is, if i put it in 1st (L) and the light is not on it will not hold 1st, but if i slap it back and forth abunch it comes on and it will hold 1st till i shift to 2nd, 2nd doesnt care if the light is on, it will hold 2nd till i shift to 3rd. i dont know if that means that there is a direct link to the shift sensor on the side of the tranny but i would like to fix it.
