Default SC300 5-Speed Aftermarket Shift *****...

Hello everyone,

I tried doing a search on this and came up with a lot of conflicting info.

Are there any aftermarket (momo, etc) shift ***** that fit the SC300 well? If they don't, why do they not? Is the shift screw too tall?

How much have you guys seen stock ones go for? I've read through search as much as $160, and as little as $62.

Mine is worn out, so I'm exploring options to replace it.

Thanks,

-m

I have searched too, and I am almost to the point where I am going to buy a Supra NA 5 speed short shift kit, and then put an aftermarket **** on it. I just had a Centerforce Stage 1 clutch put in, and its a whole new animal. Had to drop the exhaust to get the transmission down. One more thing, a rubber bushing, where the drive shaft goes into the rear end, is starting to crack. Anyone have a problem with this?

Centerforce 1 Clutch $204 from Nopi. $300 other places.
Installation $150

Much nicer now. Gotta love that sling you in your seat acceleration.

I've been poking around a bit...

Apparently, TRD Japan makes a short shift kit for the N/A Supra and Soarer, complete with a TRD shift ****. I've got a friend who's been a parts guy at Toyota for almost 20 years looking into it.

I will post here with what I find.

Here's a link for those who are interested about the TRD Quick Shifter for 5-speed SC300s...

http://www.toyota-trd.com/en/strt/i_quick.html

We don't even have to get a Supra part this time, they specify it for the SC300 themselves! Same part # as the Supras, but its nice to get recognition for our own parts every once in a while

Marcus, please let us know what you find out.

That looks like it is for 94 and up.

Sure would be nice if us pre-98 AT owners had a short shifter kit . I really hate the shift stick for our cars...

I believe a short shift kit is going to benifit the manual tranny cars by shortening the travel of the stick during shifting. This would not benefit an auto. Do they make shift kits for the lexus auto - I think I saw one at intense motorsports.

i've got a Greddy ****, best shift **** i ever had; it threads in the very top... dropped the length of the shifter by about 3"

I was thinking of the short shifter avaliable at suprastore and an aftermarket ****, something clean looking. My shifter is not crisp, now that I have a harsh clutch. My pedal resistance is less as well, still deciding on that one. I would think a new boot would be best as well, it is showing its age.

I'm not looking for functionality, I just want a lower profile for aesthetic looks and better feel. The huge *** stick I have right now is very uneccessary and gets in the way more than it benefits.

Guys,

I got an email back - I can get both parts from TRD Japan. I am currently looking into why it says '94+ on the website. I know for my Supra TRD has listed parts for the MKIV and said it was for '93-'97 and they fit my '98 perfectly fine like the would any other year. TRD seems to make those mistakes.

I'm also trying to find pictures of that TRD shift ****.

I'll keep you posted on that.

The other option I was exploring was doing a Momo **** and Shift Boot.

Even if the **** doesn't fit like stock, you can use the boot to just cover it up. I have my reservations against this, as I have a feeling the **** will stick up farther than the stock one (which is tall enough). I can get the boot for $45 and the **** for $70.

Could be something to consider.

Is that the Greddy shift **** you have Bean? Did it really lower the shift height? That would be like killing two birds with one stone!

I was considering the Greddy one and the Veilside one, which looks very similar (I think Greddy might have ripped it off but I'm not sure).

Here's a pic of the Veilside one:

http://www.veilside.co.jp/jpn/ShiftKnob.htm

I believe the 6-speed Supra one will not fit, but the Toyota specified one will, but again, I'm not 100% sure and if someone knows, please back me up.

it should... Toyotas have the same thread pattern; at least on the JZ chassis

there's no difference between the 6-speed and 5-speed shifter **** except the sticker that goes on top

yes thats the **** that i have; except its sticker is red... it shortened the height considerably; almost like a short throw shifter... sits low in the boot; and is very comfortable to use...

the length of the throw was only shortened by the amount from the top of the stick; a true short throw shifter changes the pivot point

If you look at the link to veilside I had in my previous post, it looks like the 5-speed and 6-speed shift ***** are of different height.

What gives?
