Default New to the board... QUESTIONS!

Hey everyone, I'm new to the board so work with me a little...hehe...

I just bought a 95 SC300, red, 5-speed, black leather interior yesterday morning. I love it. But, I had a 12 second all-wheel drive turbo eclipse before, so naturally I'm looking into getting more out of this thing and I know it has the right motor to work with. What do people usually do? What's the upgrade path? What's the best turbo set-ups? Thanks!

Sex, that's a sweet car you picked up. The first thing on your mind should be this... http://www.toyomoto.com/sc300.htm (Toyomoto 2JZ-GE turbo kit)

hey! welcome, i dig the name. From what I hear it's not too difficult to turbo charge an SC300. But im not by any stretch an expert on this subject! Good luck w/ your new purchase, it was a good one.

Yeah, I saw that toyomoto kit when i was trying to do some research before i bought the car. Looks like a quality kit. I'm kinda curious of to how much the GE motor can handle? Is there TT kits? With the common upgrades with a toyomoto kit, what can be expected of an SC in the quarter mile?

Sorry about all the questions...

Oh, I originally posted in the Engine section, but didn't think many people were seeing it.

The GE is the same block as the GTE and thus when built up, it can withstand up to 2000hps. There are at least a dozen SC300 owners here with over 500rwhps, and one in the works by Clint will have over 1000hps. There are at least a couple twin turbo setups for the SC300. You can probably get mid 12s before you run into traction problems.

Oh, another question I have: Is there any major concern for a slightly higher mileage engine if it's been well maintained? I mean, I know toyotas last forever as long as you keep oil in them...lol

What's high mileage? Engine mechanics say the 2JZ-GE can last 400,000 miles. Forced induction does shorten the engine's life though.

Well, the SC I just got has 113K on it. But the engine bay is really clean, the paint on the car looks like it came off a 20,000 mile car, and the interior is immaculate. So I'm assuming that the engine was maintained just the same.

go to your lexus dealership and ask them to check the service records on your car... have your VIN handy -- you'll be able to see ALL the work that was ever done by a Lexus dealership. Also, I'd go with a Single tubo. Alotta the Supra guys (TT) convert to single to get the big HP. A toyomoto kit is tons more cost effective than trying to drop the 2JZ-GTE in. What do you get from the GTE vs the GE? oil squirters, lower compression (can get that from the toyomoto HG in the stage 1.5 kit)

I wouldn't worry too much about the higher milage. I know one of the toyomoto evangelists running around here turbo'd their car when it had 100k+ miles, and it runs fine many many miles later. Toyomoto is better than toyota OEM. Lance knows his stuff.

Yea so anyhow... If you really wanna go ape, you can also swap in the supra 6sp getrag tranny pretty easily -- the 95s have a larger tunnel which makes the swap a lot less of a headache. that's what Jeff has done.

Along w/ the tranny you get the rear end, and the LSD from the supra. Hence you'll get really good traction, and an extra gear.

any other questions?

john

EDIT: toyomoto 1.5 turbo kit will net 12s easy.... from there, w/ a lil' bit o' work & tuning, you'll be tossing your old eclipse like a drunken dwarf.

Awesome info man... nice drunken dwarf analogy...lol

Yeah, my eclipse was awd, so I never worried about traction and I'd always have all the cars I raced out of the hole... so now I'm driving my new SC300 and I'm poking my eyes out as I drive because it seems so slow right now, lol. Oh well, just needs a little bit of aftermarket goodies.
