Hi,
I have a Lexus SC400-1992.
The problem: I start the car with no issues; I drive for 1/2h and then I stop; test: I wait 2 mins and it starts great; another 2 mins no problem; BUT then after 1/2h or so (let's say I was shopping) I have to turn the key 5-10 times!!!!!! to start and avery single time it starts in full 8 cylinders at 1500rpm and then goes down to 5-600rpm to settle the idling and is dying! (Like the gas is cut out!). I press the speed pedal and dies all the way.
Thanks
ok just for clarification, sounds like you may be having a starting issue, and a driveability problem also. once the car does get started, it should run. And it's OBD 1 so the light coming on may be a hard hurdle to cross, because if there isn't a hard fault somewhere it won't go on. Definitely need to start w/ a battery check. a load test and all. If the battery checks ok then you'll need to go further with possibly ignition ckt or possibly starter ckt as SoCaLSC400 was eluding to. If it is running poorly like you described after it does start. I would look into your IAC or idle air control valve. Fuel delivery issues are unlikely with these cars.
