My SC-400 has an intermittent problem with the traction control system. Seem to be related to engine temperature. Traction control sytem over pressurizes and trips off. Tract light on instrument panel comes on. Is this a common problem? Dealer wants to replace the Traction Control module for $2G's. Any simple fix out there?

 

Never heard of "over pressurizing" a trac system. I wonder what the code or codes are.

Very dirty, almost black, brake fluid will trip multiple codes in trac and abs systems. flushing the whole system isn't hard.

trac problems are rare.

The over pressurization is a loud squealing noise from the Traction Control module. There is a high pressure by-pass line that is designed to by-pass the hydraulic fluid so as to not over pressurize the system. After 30 seconds the Tract Control trips off, the noise stops and the Tract Control light on the instrument cluster comes on. When the engine temperature cools, the system re-sets itself.
You mentioned that changing the hydraulic oil was not a problem. Can you provide any details or a brief procedure?

 

I have encountered codes shared by ABS and TRAC systems which are cured by changing out the nasty black brake fluid for new fluid. As I understand it, TRAC applies rear brakes to control wheel spin, (and yeah, it cuts throttle too) so TRAC uses normal brake fluid shared with the brake system.

It really doesn't sound like we're discussing the same problem, unfortunately.

how many miles on your lex? if its got high miles it may just be o2 sensor. My traction control was completely out and I had the TRAC light lit and I took it to the dealer. They changed my o2 sensors and it fixed the problem
