Today I installed the BFI kit


It went very well after I called Tom and he answered all my questions - a really nice guy. My time saver was using a Roto Zip to cut out the face of the airbox, about 1 1/2 minutes. When it comes time to drill holes in the plastic pieces, line it up and tap with a smooth hammer against the bolt to leave an impression, lift off, use an ice pick to mark a centering hole and drill the hole. About four hours with some interruptions.

When finished, disconnected the battery to dump the ecu, reconnected and Heidi and I went for some quick starts. With power switch on and overdrive off, punched it and it roared up to 6500 rpm and shifted, about 70 mph. I had not done this before so can't give a comparison. I liked the sound and the feel.

I did mine and like the results but like you, didn't do much "hoy rodding" before so didn't have much to compare it to.

 

Yeah, he lives up the street from me. Maybe next time I come home I'll buy one and see if I can get him to help me install it lol.

was the install on a 300 or 400.i'm picking up an extra air intake to do this.

 

IIRC it's for the 400

 

Does it work on the 1uz vvti since the intake manifold faces a different way than the non vvti? Also wondering since it's in the front, would like a vette's intake work on it?

 

do you have any pics of his BFI kit installed in the car? Am quite interested in buying one. Glanced through his ebay page already.

Here's the finished install. The car had morning dew and i had rinsed it off, that's why you see some water.

 

Here's what the lower shelf looks like after installing the bolts that Tom sent. I didn't want to mess with relocating the sensor (don't know how), so they were placed in the center. The radiator should get plenty of air thru the grill and from the louvres in the front splash pan. The temperature guage will be monitored for any increase in heat just in case.

Tom, my front splash pan was there, just missing some screws, which I replaced.

 

Well, I thought I was done. Have to reposition the sensor. What I've done so far is a pleasant surprise. The throttle response is much quicker. I want more!
