lol, there is a much easier way to do this guys.
I would not recommend removing the sensor. who knows what else that ecu ties into.
why remove the control when you can remove the mechanical part of it and be done with it.

you can disable the extra assist from the power steering by removing 2-3 vac lines.
basically you are taking out the check valve that adjusts your Power steering when there is a pressure difference. no pressure difference = no power assist.

this makes your steering rack have one level of assist (the low level), and is easily reversible. bonus is you get an extra spot for vac/boost on the manifold, and the power assist thing will no longer make your idle act funny due to the small spikes in vacuum everytime you turn the wheel (especially w/ aftermarket ecu).

1. remove the vacuum line that goes from the front of the intake manifold, to the power steering reservoir, and cap both sides (free vac source for map sensor/boost gauge!). Shown with red circles

2. remove the second vac line that goes from the power steering reservoir over to the right front side of the block (metal tube). remove that and cap both ends. Shown in yellow

3. not necessary if you capped all of the above, but you can also remove the third vac line going from the other side of the block (other side of same metal tube yellow line went too) that goes to the intake piping right next to the MAF. cap both those off too.

When you do this mod you will always have the low level of power steering. This is much better than having no power steering at all, and since it is minimal and doesnt adjust any, you get all the feedback you need.

 

on another note, for turbo guys who want power steering to assist but notice there is a boost leak when you have it connected like stock, there is an easy fix. it will work like stock with only the red vac line connected and the yellow end on the power steering reservoir capped off. the blue vac line was removed long ago if you went turbo.

 

Going to bring back a year old thread.

ALI SC3, or anyone else, are there any negative effects when disconnecting the vacuum lines? I just installed Daizen steering rack bushings and I don't notice any difference, steering is still really loose.

 

Not sure what you mean by "loose" here, but if you mean sloppy and unresponsive, then you might also want to check out your LCA bushings.
