So it's the on going problem with my 92 sc400, as it takes off, it's fine on 1st but when it shifts to 2nd, the car loses most of its power and rpm only hover at 1900-2000rpm.

I was thinking ignition coils but we checked them both by unplugging them and starting the car but they both do something to the engine (they are firing good).

So my dad pulled out his timing strobe gun and checked the timing out on the crank and it was at like 20 degree advanced from the 0 mark at idle, reving it disappeared the notch. So is my timing out of wack? It does makes sense as the timing advancing too much at right rpm when I shift it the ecm just decides to loose all my timing.

Is there a way to adjust the timing on the 1uzfe without taking off the timing belt? It was replaced half a year ago.

 

Hi..you can loose the timing idler pulley and have someone help to stressout the the belt while you move the crank pulley 1 forward or backward to the correct possition..you can do this without removing the crank bolt or timing belt out..have you check the ignition caps to make sure it work properly?

 

Ok, so we had the engine off and rotated the crank to the 0 degree mark and the notches on the cams were no where near their marks. Timing belt off?

are you at the "0" TDC? make sure you're not 180% off...if you're at the TDC..then just make sure both of your cam/crank at the "v" mark..then you're good to go! it never gave me problem..been done few of them in the past..

It's TDC yeah I checked it again and all marks line up perfectly. So it's not timing belt. I'm back to square one.

Anyway, the CEL came up as I reved it pass 4K rpm in park. Codes pulled for both knock sensors. Any more idea?

 

recheck your crank position sensor? make sure it still in the position and clean..recheck all your connections make sure there is no loose connectors or broken..also recheck the fuses box too..make sure there is no shortout fuse....

 

Where is that crankshaft position sensor located?
