Default Trunk latch

does anyone know how to fix the latch that opens the trunk from the driver side? It broke right after my trunk lift supports went out and I am switching those out tomorrow. I wanted to know if it is something that would be a cheap fix to do my self....

and also... my brake light inside the spoiler died and we went to lexus to see how much the part costs and it seemed like a total rip off at the time like things usually are from the dealer (they wanted to sell me the entire spoiler). does anyone know where i should order the led strip from that will fit?

i know that when i was fixing our latch thing, we sprayed wd40 all over the latch\mechanism but trying not to hit the few wires there. then we would try to press the driverside button until it slowly got better and better.

yea, the same thing happened on mine. the trunk doesnt wanna open from the latch. my trunk lift supports have been out since i bought the car so i wouldnt know how long the latch thing has been going on. i really dont see how wd40 would get that fixed but it doesnt hurt to spray it a little. it seems like an electrical problem to me cause the switch/latch isnt even clicking like the fuel door latch does when i go open that

So, I thought I had the same problem on my 98. When I was at the dealer this morning for routine service, I remembered to bring it up

Me: "Yeah, I don't know what the hell is wrong but the trunk latch isn't working!"

Service dept: "I bet I know why. You turned on the valet lock."

Me: "The val-what?!"

Turns out I'm just an idiot, a lucky one at that without any real trunk problems.
