Default an intake worthwhile pwr gains?

i was all ready to buy a SRT GS400 intake for my SC400 as its first mod. 30 more horsepower and 40lbs of torque sound like good increases to me. Then someone mentioned it wouldnt be noticeable and that the manufacturer increases were much to generous and 5 hp is more accurate? Is an intake worth the $500? Specifically asking those with this type of mod on a 1998+ SC4

I seriously doubt you'll get anywhere near half those numbers.

I smell BS unless they can show a VID and a dyno chart to prove me otherwise. There is a LOT to get 30 hp out of any engine with just a new pipe and a filter.

they have a dyno chart on here:

they have been selling these for more than 5 years. do you think they could get away with bs for that long?

yes, as long as people keep believing them.
they should show you the results without the little black box.
i know i can get the decent hp gain with a stock box if i mess with fuel on my safc.

BFI + k&n drop in filter is clearly where it is at
you will get the same results "intake wise" at half the cost.

you realize the plastic intake tubing on the SC is like 3" piping right.
other than the maf, there is no real restriction except for the opening in the intake box.
the SRT intake will be like sticking a cone filter on the end of your maf.

BFI is your best bet unless you were to do a real CAI with custom piping and have it go under the headlights to get a true CAI effect.

this has been discussed before. there was a member here from australia that installed one of these onto his VVTI SC4 and impressed with the results. The difference between the non vvti sc4 intakes and the SRT one is that the SRT incorporates a piggyback pre-programmed ecu. Since the engine and ECU is essentially the same between the VVTI SC4 and the GS4, I would not doubt the claims in power.

The intakes more commonly posted on the site are more towards the non-vvti.

If i had a 98+ SC4, I would no doubt go for either a SRT intake or go with a K&N kit with a SAFC or other ecu tuning device. Though do keep in mind, with the SRT, it's already programmed. Drawback is if you do more work to the car, say an exhaust, it should be re-programmed for optimal settings.
