Default Timing Belt

Ive heard different opinions on having the timing belt changed. Someone at Lexus said that if it breaks the car will be fine and others have said the damage will be catastrophic. Any opinions or people with experience. Thanks

depends on the motor.....

if the timing belt on any of the vvti motors break it will bend some valves. If you have a earlier non-vvti 1uz or 2jz-ge you should be good and you can slap another belt on it.

moved to engine section

Ninja Edit

Book says GE & GTE in stock form (non VVTI) are NON interferance.
Meaning no valve damage in normal circumstances if the belt
kicks off.

Now if you do a 6 grand holeshot & break it. All bets are off
due to valve float.

These guys are absolutely correct. Depends on the year of your car. If you have the non VV-TI motor, it will be fine. Let me know if you need the link, if you are doing yourself. I will send it to you.
