ok so i have searched, and frankly very frustrated, so please no smart *** search comments or any other crap....

my oil pan is stripped at the plug, and super autobacs claims that it was a standard size, but after they"tried" to rethread it, they said that they did not have the right size...

so i tried to find out on my own what size and what it would take to rethread it..... autozone employees are useless as always, and i wasnt 100% successful in determining the EXACT size.....from what i gathered on my own it is either 7/16ths or 12x1.25mm......


i'm leaning more towards the 12x1.25 since it is japanese and would find it odd that the entire car is metric and to have 1 standard bolt....but someone with they expert knowledge would be helpful....

all or most toyota's use the same size drain plug which is indeed a m12x1.25 with a 14mm hex head top for the wrench.

if this is not your primary car and you can have it out of commission for a bit i suggest removing the lower oil pan and fixing it. that way you will not get metal shaving or anything like that into the oil and consequently into the motor.

if it is stripped you most likely have some stuff in the pan that should not be there...

 

got it thanks.....ne suggestion what size replacement bolt to use since autobacs seems to have royally screwed it up trying to install a standard size bolt??

 

Hey, i am in the same situation as you. My oil pan is leaked as well but i am pretty sure it is just not my bolt that is leaking. How much is an oil pan usually?

 

i would venture to say less than $100 for a new metal oilpan, probably considerably less- you could ask aliga for a second hand one as well, im sure he has many. unless its bent outa shape really bad from a rock, its most likely not your oil pan that has the issue. its removed with 10mm bolts easily, you just have to re-seal everything which would be kinda icky to do with the motor still in the car

if you are worried about strippage of oil pan, you could install a fram drain or fumitomo drain valve (type thing)

how are they not paying. thats BS. speak with the store manager and also file with a BBB(better business bureau) if they dont man up.

ya i think imma do that, u know i wouldnt be so pissed if they just said hey we dont know if it was our fault or someone before, you supply the part and we'll comp the labor...or something along those lines, at least meeting me half way...
