I highly doubt your car will lose that much power due to a bad cat. If anything you gain power. Try getting a second opinion from another shop who specializes in Toyota/Lexus.

Do you have emissions in the state of New York? I am leaning towards yes. Other then that a bad catalytic converter can definitely cause a engine performance problem. If someone hasn't done any maintenance to there car like spark plugs you have a problem. If the the check engine light starts flashing that is damage happening to the converter as a example. That is a type A misfire dumping lots of fuel which will melt your cat cause of serious temps. In turn the cat melts together and causes a blockage reducing performance. I have also seen people melt them because they put diesel in there tanks on the Lexus GX 470's. If you have a high mileage car they can break apart on the inside. If you hit them and it sounds like stuff is bouncing around obvious indication it is bad. Also make sure the bevels in your muffler haven't fallen apart inside either another possible blockage. If you can't cut them off and have a straight pipe made for it go after market like (T70 Supra) said dealer parts are very jacked up in price. Hope you get it taken care of !Later>>>

They use serveral metals and fiberglass which eventually breaks down over time as the car runs richer. The richer you run the hotter your cats gets thus shortening their lifespan.

Yeah exactly, those go for a lot of money if people cut them off of cars. People steal those and sometimes get a couple hundred dollars for the big trucks. LEX_MAN everything breaks down on a car end of story any condition can happen. If that where true Toyota would be some rich basturds lol.

On the SC400.. I think this may help

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...=ignition+coil

if it is truly the cats.. you can get some performance peddlers for cheap (magnaflos) and have the shop weld your old flanges to the new cats...( that is what I did)

700? are you insane?

you can get universal ones AND have them custom installed for half that cost.

i agree with the comment above. you should have just ditched the cats and put in test pipes.
