Guys i have a supra manual and it tells me to torque the head to 25 ft pounds, then mark the headbolts ,and turn 180 degrees in 2 steps (90) and (90) has anyone did that before?
It seems like a pain if you ask me.Can i just torque these bolts to 80 ft lb's in 4 steps and get it over with?
Please help i'm at the garage and only have 1 hour to get this job done.
for stretch bolt the manual usually lists the new length and max length. measure your bolts and make sure they are not too long. theres a reason they are called stretch bolts.
if the manual says you can reuse them then go for it.
from my experience with VW/audi factory bolts they cant/shouldnt be reused.
when i did 7mgte's before i go arp but a few times reused factory bolts with no problems.
Thanks man, just torqued them like the manual said.I thought i would strip the bolts but thank God everything was fine. I torqued the bolts with a torque wrench and noticed some bolts went as high as 90-100 ft lb's...Thats crazy.
Now proceeding to cams.Another crazy way of tightening the cams in the manual.
the correct term would be torque to yield bolts, no i would not re use them especially if this is a turbo application, and you do need to torque them first then go 180 degrees how many steps does not matter you can do 2 90 degree or one 180 or 180 1 degree turns

Correct termage and I wouldn't reuse the bolts. That spells trouble.
If you torqued FACTORY 7M headbolts to over 90ft lbs you are asking for trouble.
I've built nearly 100 7M motors and done everything you can think of with them and have NEVER once used factory bolts, especially not w/ 200k + miles. Those motors are so prone to HG issues as it is, you are really pushing your luck w/ what you are doing there.
I hope for your sake they hold up, but you are playin with fire doing that on factory head bolts w/ that many miles.
Ok guys i'm back. I was using my brothers laptop and his username poped up. Its me who is asking this question.
The engine is 2jzge and its non turbo.I'm just trying to get back on the road thats why i went the cheapest way out.I hope it wont bite me in the butt later.
Honestly i wanted to measure the bolts but i forgot
I've always used ARP head bolts on the 7MGTE motor and torqued to 85 ftlbs along with a metal head gasket. I've never reused nor recommended reusing stock head bolts. Big no no when boosting.
