Default Front Disk Rotor Dust Cover Removal??

In the springtime, I will be installing the 12.5" Rod Millen big brake rotors and 4 piston calipers. To do this, I will have to do something with the stock front rotor dust covers as they will be too small.

So, does anyone know if these covers come off of the front wheel assembly? If they do, is this a big job or is this easy. Yesterday, when working on the front tires, I noticed that the dust covers do in fact somewhat wrap around the edge of the OEM front rotor. therefore they would be in the way of the new larger diameter rotors. Bummer.

One way I suppose would be the bend them away from the rotor but that is not what I want to do. Nor do I want to cut them off.

I did not spend alot of time to see if they are simply bolted on or if they are somehow an integral part of the wheel hub assembly. I hope I will not be forced to take the entire axel hub assembly apart to remove them. However I think that will be the situation.

Although, looking at the shop manual, it is totally unclear to me how to remove the front axel hub (the part with the 5 lugs). It seems that you must remove this to get to the 3 bolts that hold the dust shield and to then remove the dust shield.

If someone here has done this deed, can you clarify how I would go about doing this?

Red93......Your best bet is to just cut them off. You would have to disassemble the hub to remove them without cutting them off.
You can access the three screws that hold them on without any problems. I cant see the extra work for saving them. They are useless with your big brake upgrade, it would still be alot of work putting them back on if you chose to go back to your old brakes...if thats what your thinking. Just my opinion.

Thanks Derek! Yes, I do remember that great thread by Computer Wiz on his bid brake upgrade. Yah, I was thinking of maintaining the shields for posterity.

Other thought.... will running without shields cause harm to the rotors in any way? I think not, but am I wrong in that thought?
