Default AC Scratching Noise

My AC makes a really annoying scratching sound when im driving, it does it at idle too, right when i turn the ac off the sound stops so thats what it must be, anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it? I searched and couldnt find anything, it has been doing this for a good amount of time now, and AC still blows really cold. The ac light has blinked a few times when i turned my car on before but it barely ever does it now.

The scratching sound is perceptable inside or outside of the car? If outside it could be the compressor/bearings grinding which I think would mean its toast. did you check the drive belt making sure it wasnt slipping?

If its inside I am not sure, I'm gonna have to defer to someone else on here. I was gonna also say if its outside theres a trick to put like a screwdriver or something along those lines on various moving parts (the compressor) to "listen" to them.

I had this same thing happen to me last week. I though it was my ac compressor too. But it turn out to by my Harmonic Balancer from my crank pulley. Because a cuple a days later my harmonic balancer fell off the crank pulley. But if it was your ac compressor I have one for sale. Let me know I will be puting it up for sale.

Hey Vortes, I'm not to sure what the noise is, you'll have to trace it for yourself but if your A/C light flashes that's an early warning detector that your compressor is going bad. Good luck!
