Default Safe Or Maximum Coolant Temperature?

Hello All,

Does anyone know of the safe or maximum coolant temperature of the SC400 or SC300, or any car? I have the digital temperature gauge and it reads about 205 if I turn on the AC in this hot summer. I haven't tried to see if it could go up anymore.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

My 1jz stays at 185-190 with spirited driving. I changed out the waterpump, and got a coolant flush.

Shouldnt be much more with the AC on.

205 is nothing to worry about. The SC400's stock thermostat is 180 degrees. This is the temperature at which the thermostat STARTS to open, not the temp its supposed to maintain. Most newer cars run higher temp rated thermostats.

You have nothing to worry about. I would, however, highly reccomend getting a colder thermostat. I noticed that my intake temps dropped quite a bit after I installed a Stant 170 degree t-stat. TRD also makes a "sport stat" for the SC but it costs $80+ vs the stant cost like 10 bucks.

Thanks for your replies. So do you think if I happen to have 220, is it still safe? I read somewhere on the Z06 forum that says 225 is still normal for the stock Z06 engine.

I think 220 should be ok. Just as long as the temps. dont keep rising. You'll notice it drop when the fan kicks on...

If I have the A/C on, the temp keeps rising up till 215 and doesn't drop even though both 14" fans are working. Each fan has about 1500 CFM. When the temperature reaches 200, the A/C doesn't seem to be working anymore. All I have is the hot air coming in. I still can't think what could be the cause. I have the new thermostat and 13 psi radiator cap. The water pump works fine and sucks the water in normally. If I don't turn on the A/C, then the temperature is ok and is about 180 even under boost. I need a solution for this badly.
