Default Water on Drivers Door Carpet

Hello,

I have a 1992 Sc400 that is perfect except when it rains the carpet on the drivers door gets soaked, the rest of the door stays dry, the weather stripping seems to be in good conditon and I cannot find any inlits on the door that would allow water to get in. Any Ideas?

You are leaking from the roof / windshield seal. Remove the "O-sheet" handle and the headliner, you will feel the wetness up there and be able to trace the leak. I had this problem and it took me a while to find the leak. I can almost guarantee that is the deal.

Basically it leaks above you, than runs down the pillar to your left and all the way out the bottom where it is absorbed by the carpet. All of this is hidden by the trim, so the leak seems very phantom. Pull the trim off and you can see the trail of water (if it is raining outside or actively leaking)

All you need is windshield sealant silicone stuff to stop it. Under $5.00 fix

is the water getting inside your door panal? it might be getting in from the window seals. take of your door panal and see if there is there any heavy condensation that doesnt seem normal. i would suspect the window seals since thats the only way the door carpet can get wet without the floor getting wet/soaked.

even though window belt molding is new water does go into the door not much but it does go in and when you see bottom edge you will find small hole that drains water traps inside. it could leaking from your weather strip and also if you don't have plastic cover inside door trim panel it could also cause that portion getting wet. just double check the door and the roof what tommysc said it could be another possible leaking.

I am 99% sure your problem is what I was talking about. I was literally dealing with that same phantom leak for months. It made my car smells like poo when it rained!

I know there is info somewhere on CL about removing the headliner… the main thing is to remove the handle, than everything else just pops off. 2 Bolts hold the handle.

Anyway, try what I am saying – since the leak you describe is exactly how mine was. Only the left side of the drivers carpet was wet, which is because the water it running from the top down the pillar (behind the trim) and finding its home in the carpet by your left foot.
