Default Does the Tornado work?

Just wondering. While flipping through channels after going out, there was an infomercial featuring the Tornado. They dyno'ed an Impala around 210 hp, which means it had a few upgrade goodies because I know they dyno around 180 at the rear wheel stock. I could see a K&N cold air intake from a quick camera shot. After installing it, they said it dyno'ed at 220. Has anyone tried this? I figured for $25, I could try it and see if the mpg increases, its not too much. What about the other gimmics, like the magnetic fuel thing? Hell, for around 40 bucks for both, it won't kill me or someone to try it and see. Also, I remember seeing a fuel packet that you put by your air filter somewhere. Whats the lowdown?

Well just looking at the physics of airflow, I'd have to say that the tornado is going to cause a lag (just like a turbo), and make it harder for air to pass thru.

As for the magnetic fuel thing....well...no idea. I think it's just like hte magnetic things for your joints....it's mental...lol Of course, that will trap any small pieces of metal flowing thru...and eventually clog the line...

Arrow magnetic thing...

The magnet thing for the fuel line is also supposed to 'realign' the actual fuel molecule to make it more receptive to the oxygen and subsequent combustion. (to answer Hoops question from the other post, yes some of us are edumacated - I know no hurt meant by that post Hoops, at least I hope not.)

anyway,,,,,

I highly doubt that a simple magnet has enough power to really effectivly and consistently perform as advertised.

More so, even if it did, it is questionable if it does really cause the increased performance if the molecules are realigned.

I guess if you have a couple bucks to toss at it and run a couple tests it may be worthwhile. Heck if you did an independent dyno test, maybe you could get the results - and your coupe, in one of the rags.

I looked around on some message boards and found some people swearing by the tornado. I figure it would have more of an impact with some vehicles.

I read some article by a NP scientific consumer research group that the magnetic fuel line things are useless. In theory the tornado thing would work, but that's assuming all the physics in the intake were considered to MAKE it work. that's probably why it had that CAI on there - the pipe was probably made with CAD and set up so they could have that commercial and sell people a little piece of plastic for $40.

As a DEGREED Engineer who has tested Tornado (and owns one now), it DOES work on many vehicles. My mileage did increase with one of these devices. Think about VORTEC GM engines. They use swirled, VORTEX-style air coming through the intake to give the engine more power. Obviously, the Tornado won't work well there. But on other cars, if you have a straight flow of air (especially from a K&N or other high quality filter), when the air is swirled right by this device, it will help with burn and combustion efficiencies. Please don't post unless you've tried it. I believe that post about "not posting unless you know" ran just last week??

If it's installed PROPERLY in the intake, RIGHT before the throttle body, it works well, but you must have a straight flow of air. I have not installed mine yet in the Lexus, but I have one that should fit. I will install soon.

I have some snake oil that I have combined with Slick 50 that increases engine life 10x and gas mileage by 2x!!

even if i dont get that much fast
mpg could go up

Default special tire tread extend treatment

There is a company which has a really new cutting edge tire tread treatment which is supposed to extend tread life by up to 1000X simply by spraying it on occasionally! They even guarantee that it will extend the life a minimum of 200% as long as you meet some conditions.

Ya, and I heard that every coat of that stuff you spray on, the reliability goes up exponentially.

Oo, Oo, me first, me first. Where can I get it? Will the secret liquid make my Tornado rust or dissolve? Will the liquid turn my Tornado into a Typhoon or Tsunami?

That would be coooooool.

Well, yeah,it's a diffuser, which should help the airflow against turblence from the walls of the intake,I always thought that there was enough going on already to do the same thing, but maybe not.
Does it work even better with the exhaust whistle from JCwhittney?

Cool

Very strange. K&N airfilters claim to enhance airflow and power by "Straightening out" the air flow. Vortex claims to enhance power by "Swirling" airflow. I believe that anything you put into the air stream which constricts the flow will reduce power. Don't believe the "Swirl" will still be "Swirling" by the time it is mixed with fuel, and goes down the intake, through the intake valve, and into the combustion chamber.

That treatment is oil. Your tread will never hit the pavement
