okay i just found out what the clunking is!!! my steering rack bushing is SHOT! i knew it was bad when i got the car, but i took two large hose clamps put em together and wrapped it around the rack and the crossmember. tightened it up as much as i could and it held for a while,... but now it still moves a little.... gotta buy some bushings. any ideas people? dealer says its rack only...

 

I recently ordered the steering rack bushings from TM Engineering. People have had good luck in the past, but I will tell you that things may have slipped. It's been about 2 weeks and no reply to my e-mail. So...maybe someone else in here has better connectivity.

i am going to order a set from TM engineering tomorrow or monday if i can, is it a better idea to call in the order or is online fine? only problem i have is i live in hawaii, so shipping is about as much as the bushings are..... if i wanna get em here in less than ten days.....

 

quick question on those bushings though, i found a DIY on the bushings install from Daizen (https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...eering+bushing) and i am wondering if the TM kit comes with the same parts.... i would really like to replace them all if possible, one less thing to worry about down the road.

 

TM sells the same exact Daizen kit.

 

great writeup.. im planning on changing my bushings soon... so this really help... i assume the upper arms are just as easy to work with.

i replaced the SC arm with a Supra TT arm from Carson Toyota. you cant beat 204 for a brand new arm with new bushings and ball joint.

 

yeah you can lol. $180 dealer cost lol. guess you can say i am lucky to be working for toyota.

 

yes but my 204 price was including shipping to hawaii. so yeah i did beat urs!!!
also, i did the steering bushings on my car the other day and OH MY GOD!!! 200% better. i can cruise down the highway and not have any issues with shaking or loose steering or steering wheel not returning to center.... so much better and such an easy job.

 

So I just got done replacing both of the lower control arms and what a freaking difference. Both my rear bushings looked exactly the same....ate up. And the squeak is gone.

Epix...I will say that I had a really hard time with the sway bar link bolts. They were just about fused on and you can't get any leverage with the hex key. No issues with the ball joint though.

Is that a Supra or Supra TT control arm? Why did you choose one over the other?
