Default How Should I Upgrade my Sc400

I have about $5,000 and i was planning on doing a 1jz swap into my 92 sc400

my question is should I:

1. go ahead with the swap and upgrade the brakes (to LS brakes), the suspension, wheels and tires, and exhaust throughout the year

or

2. take the 5 grand and upgrade the brakes (to LS brakes), the suspension, wheels and tires, and exhaust; and just do the swap next spring

i'm not really in a rush for the swap bc the 92 only has 68,000 miles on it.

p.s. for u Down South and West Coast guys we have winter out here so the weater is nice from march till about october, november

Thnx in advance

best question is: what do you plan to do with your car(DD, track, a bit of both?) and what is your financial situation? are you a student? working? making enough to just dump 5k on your car?

its very tempting to have money and not spend it. if you're going to school i would say put in the bank and pay off school. if you just work and dont have any debt then spend some of it.

dont dump all 5k on your car.

Go to casino..JK.

Since your SC4 has low mileage, you should spend it on maintenance and the rest for the wheels maybe?

1UZ motor goes over 200k.. so you don't have to worry about swapping it out for the next 9 years or 15k mile per year, whichever comes first. Of course with proper maintenance.

+1

Keep the 1UZ in there with that low of miles and just cruise in that. A 1JZ in nice and all but your mileage is prime, don't mess it up.

Well it's obvious you want to boost the car so all the advice about putting money in the bank may not apply to you lol. I would wait and do the swap next spring in the meantime do the suspension(coilovers/springs, bushings, sway bars), upgrade to the LS calipers, I would leave the exhaust alone since you're going to do the swap. I would also do wheels. You can also start collecting parts for the swap(FMIC,piping etc..) Enjoy the low milage then do the swap next spring. Let me know if you have any questions, I'll probably see you at one of the local meets.

If you have a SC400(1UZ motor), I'd only spend the money on "show" mods.. maybe a nice Exhaust. I haven't seen anything that will deliver huge HP increases for small change($3k or less).

Edit: Just re-reading...It would be a very good idea to get some handling Mods.

I got one for you, you ready?

Supercharge your SC400 with a Vortech V1 T Trim ~ 2-3k Depending how you do it.

Spend the rest on LS or Supra Brakes, Suspension and some JDM wheels.

Damn, its my list! LOL

If not, I would do all supporting mods now and swap it after. No fun stopping from a high speed run on stock wheels/tires/brakes.

To hell w/ mods, make sure you're car is running good and strong like a Lexus first.

After that just do looks mod for now, no point in dropping 5k on 1jz so early.

do the things you can do to completion...new wheels, brakes, suspension (new coilovers, sways, control arms if you need them), and cosmetics...a new LSD and a dragon TC wouldn't be a bad idea either....then once the car is ready for more power do the engine stuff...at least that's my plan (though I am a bit green to all this)

On second thought though I'd cut the engine budget to $2,500 and get a system ...a really nice system...I got a clarion drz9255 hu, Image dynamics HLCD (tweeters), seas 7" nextel cone mids, elemental designs 12a sub, 2 zapco amps, an old school planet audio amp, and sound deadening everywhere....that's the best thing I ever did to my car....but I'm kind of crazy about music and sound quality.
