I think the Lexus OEM factory side skirts look fine, If anyone has retrofitted them to an early SC400.... How are they attached to the OEM body? You can get these from Lexussc400.com or from your local dealer.

ALI: please fill us all in on what this 2000 bumper cover project entailed. Did you do this all yourself or did you have a body shop do it? Other than the bumper cover, what else was needed, especially the wire harnesses, the use of old headlights vs new, the new grill, the foam bumper guard behind the bumper cover, the cornering lights, etc.

Also, who did the painting? Did they then clearcoat over it?

Lastly, what was the total cost for the project?

BTW, LexLuthor has done this mod as well and I think he did side body skirts also. you may want to contact him.

Yeah, I'd like to know too. Where did you get it? How much for the bumper itself. How much for the fog lights and how much for the grill? Any other costs? Thanks! Any pictures?

Red93,

Do you know how much the OEM side skirts cost?
Since the body of the SC stay the same, I don't think we have to retrofitted for our 93SC...Only cost is the concern for me

VQT:
No I do not know what the Lexus factory side skirt kit costs off the top of my head. Sorry. But I do believe that they are listed with prices on the www.lexussc400.com website. Shipping may be a factor in the price. Therefore, what I have found is that prices from a local dealer, just about anywhere in the USA are the same for all Lexus parts. In other words, the part for a coil in CT is the same as in CA even though they are many miles apart. If you are in the east coast like I am the shipping cost on parts if they are heavy or large is a huge uplift especially if the part needs to go by truck vs UPS or FedEx. So do your homework on the total aquisition cost of any given part.

You'll need the bumper cover, the foam absorber, the grille, and the foglamps (optional, but do it right and add them). You do not need the steel bumper support as others will tell you, it is the same. All the brackets, plastic pieces, trim, head and corner lamps, etc, are all the same between the 92-96 and the 97-2K. The connectors for the fog lamps are different, and Lexus doesn't sell just the front part of the harness, so you'll have to make something. My bodyman adapted different plugs, but I plan to check his work to make sure it's kosher. It's an easy job, I did most of the work in my driveway, brought it to the bodyshop for painting and some installation. Also, the inner lamps (brights) may not come flush with the new bumper cover, you may need to loosen the bumper support frame and do some adjusting, that's best left to capable hands. I have all the part numbers and prices for a complete and total 2K update to the entire body, straight from Steve Gantz at Carson Toyota, but i'm too tired to type the whole thing in, just give him a call.
ALI - that's a great idea, putting the older spoiler on the 2K bumper. Mine is a '95, the spoiler was deleted on the 95-96 cars, so I don't have one to use. Red, how much did you pay for the replacement '93 frt spoiler? Also, how are you guys painting a rubber spoiler and not having paint peeling issues? Are you using a flex agent? Are some of you using a spraycan, and it stays on there? Anxious to get an answer on this one, i'll order up a factory spoiler instead of aftermarket, the rubber will be more forgiving with NY roads, if the paint stays on.

Those fog lamps are pain in the rear. I've replaced the stock bulbs with PIAA ones and it took a lot of pain and time to do it!!

LEX:
There was one for sale on the big internet auction house (notice how I did not use the name?) recently. The asking price was in the low $300's and it did not sell. I contacted the gent and we dickered on the price. He is a nice guy and shipping it to me as we speak. It is new, with all mounting hardware (screws and backplates). The total was $225 which includes the $50 shipping as it it a large box (long and wide but thin) so we both got a good deal.

I think, from your dealer, this part without the mounting hardware is close to $400 dollars. I have found two lower spoilers in junk yards but they were in very poor condition and the junkyard owners wanted to sell them with the bumper cover and not break the unit up. Problem was the bumper covers were also fongooled IMHO.

However, I did recently pick up two SC400 1993 headlights (Right and Left) for $50 each in real real nice condition with all the bulbs in them. I will keep them for spares should I ever need them (let'shope not eh?)

Nice deal on those headlamps. Are you kidding me on the price of that spoiler? Hmm, i'll have to think about that one. So, i disconnected the battery and dumped the ECU memory today, then went for some abusive driving to see how it drove with the service done, hadn't really had a chance to road test thoroughly. I came across a late model Maxima with exhaust and we played around for awhile. I want to say it was a newer, 3.5litre, but we were just going too fast for me to tell. Down low, it feels about the same, but up top there is a definite improvement. At triple-digit speeds it's more responsive and torquey, probably attributable to the Denso Iridium and the decreased windage from synthetics in the crankcase and rear axle. Anyway, he couldn't f#ck with me. Here's an interesting note; I noticed at a part-throttle roll-on, the car would bog a bit and I would hear the intake sucking air. Now, I can only assume that the computer has not yet learned to compensate for the additional air, however little extra it may be. I'll rack up a few more miles tomorrow and find out, but i've never seen that before, all I did was remove the intake snorkel, that can't be more than an extra 50-75cfm of airflow. Anyone else run into this for a few miles after removing the shnazola? Art, keep your eye out for a decent spoiler for me, I think it'll go perfectly with the 2K bumper, thx bro. So, anyone painted one of these things? I'm familiar with bodywork, just tell me what products worked best if possible.

this is what me and one of my friends did to make that bumper work the way it did, he works at a body shop so he painted it and all, but we took the old foam peace and cut it to fit the 2000 bumper, then we took the black front spoiler and we cut it in a half (in the middle of it) because it dose not fit length wise, then we but it on the new bumper, now there is still a gap in it so we got some kind of a mixture that they use in the body shop and filled in the middle area with it, and then painted it all with a lot of flex agent on the lower spoiler, it looks great i'll post some pix when i get a chance, the lights and everything fits except for a plastic under body peice will not attach to the new bumper but its nothing you can see

Angry Side Skirt Info

The side skirts or side rocker panel mouldings are available from your local Lexus dealership or other sources. The quoted price which includes shipping from the dealer is $234 per side for the ground effects. To that you must add clips, seals and whatnot which are a part of the hardware kit for each side. The estimate of the cost for this hardware is between $75 and $100 for this.

The side skirts do require small holes to be drilled into the lower rocker panel for the clips to be attached. The holes have to be sealed to stop rust invasion.

The side skirts are ready for painting but are not pre painted to match you car. They can be painted off of the car to minimize the amount of time you car is layed up. They probably should be clear coated as well.

I have not had an estimate for the total cost of this installation but in general the side skirt Lexus OEM kit for the SC is in the $550 range.

To that cost you have to add paint and labor costs which are not yet known.
